American Sniper: a positive light for US military?

Watched it twice Friday and Saturday. Not as good as the book and they did take some theatrical liberties. But all in all a pretty good movie.

I have not been much of a movie-goer for the past several years so I have not seen it yet and am unable to give an honest opinion about the movie itself. However, based on everything I've read, and if they remained true to the spirit of the book by not embellishing or detracting from it too much, then I see that this should in no way cast a negative light on the military. Chris Kyle was an American Hero. And if anyone is uninformed about what the military does and are so easily offended by our mission, that's just tough. The purpose of the military is to kill our enemies and blow up their stuff, and that is about as simply-put as I could make it. Anyone who cannot grasp that concept to begin with has no business darkening the threshold of the movie theater to see the movie. Military life is obviously not for everyone, and we certainly endure hardships in the process of our service, some are greater than others short of the ultimate sacrifice which probably looms in the back of most of our minds much of the time. But we accept it because we are committed to the concept of our nation, traditions, culture, and above all else, our freedom. I personally count those who paid the ultimate price for their service as being much better men and women than I am and I don't believe there is ever any good and complete way of expressing my gratitude for what they've paid. I know Chris didn't go out like that, but he is still an American Hero because of his contributions. It's very sad that he was taken out by some coward who was probably overcome by jealousy and envy or something.

Only SF and SEALs can pull off the beard in uniform.
