MSgt Keith Hebert, also keep in mind that since you're in the National Guard, many of the states offer State tuition programs of some type. In your case (assuming you're an active drilling airman of the LAANG), Louisiana offers State Tuition Exemption Program (STEP) (http://geauxguard.com/resources/education/state-tuition-exemption-program/)

I would contact MAJ Horridge (the LANG State Education Officer - follow the link for info) first to find out the details of what you're eligible for. For instance, in some states, they will do STEP for only public colleges/universities. In other states, you can use STEP for private colleges/universities, but only get reimbursed up to the costs of what it would be to attend a public venue. Finally, for online degrees, the State may restrict STEP participation based on where the institution is physically located. For example, AMU is headquartered in West Virginia and Liberty is in Virginia.

I don't know much about AMU. But I am pursuing my Master's with Liberty University and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience. They have been great. Veterans qualify for the military tuition rate. They also give a book grant but it does not always cover the cost of books. But it really helps. Here's a link to the information on their military benefits: http://www.liberty.edu/online/military-benefits/.

I think that UMUC is a good school. However, I had nothing but problems when it came to my tuition. So I made the decision to pursue my degree elsewhere. But it does seem that things have improved as a number of people I know are pursuing degrees with them.

I would do a little research as some schools offer discounts if you show them a DD-214. 25% off my MBA no other schools could beat it. However I went the face-to-face route. If your good with IT stuff I say go for it.

I started using AMU last year and I can say from my personal experience that I would never recommend them. The instructors are very bias and close minded when turning in papers, and even though they state in their policy they will work with students who come up on orders they will not.

If it is Nationally and Regionally accredited, you can't go wrong. Go cheapest.

I'm a traditionalist and don't get all the online degrees. I know job targeting is the point of college these days. For some its unfinished business. For me college was about the experience--conversing, story-building, human interaction, etc.; something you can't get sitting at a desk.

I really like AMU. Inexpensive and they work very well with the Soldier. They totally understand that Soldiers have training events they must attend and allow them to put their classes on hold until they return.

Super easy to register for classes. Wish we didn't have to go through Goarmyed to register for classes, but it's still very easy.

Just my 2 cents.

I looked at both and choose to go with Charter Oak State College. They accepted all military credits, CLEPs, DSSTs, military discount and are a regionally accredited school part of the Connecticut University System (ie nonprofit)

I am with LTC Cudworth on the Guard benefits; when I EAS'd, I used my MGIB benefits initially, but then joined the KYARNG and they covered 100% of my tuition to a state school.

I had no obligation to the guard when I graduated either; I commissioned into active Army.
