MSG,
I'm the Ops NCO for the 197th RTI in WV. I was a dual-status technician for the Guard and was the NCOIC of the facilities engineering section. This sound pretty close to your position. I was a contracting officer's representative and was responsible for construction project management for jobs that ranged from a few hundred dollars to several million. I read and interpreted plans and specifications, used AutoCad, wrote scopes of work, ran the Installation Status Report (ISR) program; planned and developed projects for vertical and horizontal construction units training at Camp Dawson. I also supervised soldier work crews (ADOS). Not to mention the usual day-to-day SNAFU pain in the A$$ problems that came up. But I loved the job. I retired from it a year and a half ago but I'm still a drilling Guardsman. Good luck. Mike

SFC Cochran....
Mike, thank you so much for your reply. Very helpful information. Can you also tell me if there are recommended or required courses related to this position? Especially in the force protection side.

MSG Gamolo,
Sorry it took so long to reply, maybe you heard about the snowstorm we just got......
Most of the courses I was required to take due to the specificity of my job requirements had to do with being a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR). Contracting procedures, whether they are on a state or federal level are very complex. During my tenure in Engineering we were in a period of exponential growth, so that was my mission focus. As soon as I can get a chance, I'll look back and see if I can find the actual class names and forward them on.
Mike
