When 9/11 happened, I wanted to go back in the Guard to get a tour to Iraq. I was caring for my elderly father so I couldn't at the time. He passed away in 2004 and soon afterwards I went to the recruiter and and asked if I could get back in. Remember now, I was 55 at the time. He sort of chuckled and said, "I'll tell you what...If you can pass the physical, I will do the paperwork." I went over to the Army medical center at the local Guard base and passed with flying colors. I took the PT test and passed. A few weeks later I was back in. Had to give up rank. Went back in as an SGT, but that's OK. Finally worked my way into a tour in Iraq doing gun truck security duty. Went on a few missions, but I was their Day Operations Sgt. After I came home, I couldn't get another mission in time. I needed 18 months before I turned 60 and I ran out of time. Since I couldn't make that second trip, I went ahead retired at 59. I still retired as an E7 so in the long run I didn't loose. That retirement check comes in handy.

Sir, this may be a stupid question, but are you talking about pre/post-military only, or including bodily changes, stages in life, and other success stories?

As in my post, I have my boot camp picture and one years later when I made Gunny. Then I have my picture from Vietnam and a picture from Iraq. Any before and after "military" pictures will do.
