Any helpful tips/advice from anyone who recently completed/has knowledge of the Green to Gold-Active Duty Option?

I just !wntioned on another thread, where I'd made a most gauge spelling error, the spell check in the tablet I'm on is quite hard to keep shut off...further, the tablet I'm on has a very climbsy keyboard as well, and, I just had ophthalmic surgery bilaterally, both eyes, on a PC, I can generally find such mistakes, or edit them, on the Android tablet app, I camtz I'm afraid, most sorry for the clumsy circumstances, if you need !e to clarify anythng, I'll of course tryz once again, !y most sincere apologies, of course....if you need further help, I'm Jere, by all !means....

Just one University is more than enough, just make sure that they have an ROTC and that you contact that program to kind of gauge of the PMS is willing to send you an acceptance letter. I applied to several because I wasn’t sure; if you think a school and/or their program might not accept you then I would apply to multiple. Take a look at their program because schools like Texas A&M and Virginia Tech are two of the best in the country - that aren’t military academies - they might be less willing to accept incoming soldiers or they might have a strict criteria. My program was really good but it was insanely big and the PMS was willing to sign off on me coming.

HRC reps are hit or miss - mine was incredible. He consistently worked with me, we talked on the phone often and he provided detailed information on how to correct certain issues. However, I have known guys and talked to others who had a different experience. Their rep rarely responded within a week, they seemed busy and not really concerned with the packet. The reps when I did mine was assigned by alphabetical order, I only know that because when I would call in and get someone different; they would say so-and-so handles this letter to that letter.

ROTC doesn’t conflict with classes at all. In comparison to Active duty, I had so much free time. My wife loved it because I was home a lot more. Some advice, if you get accepted, schedule your classes early and you can work it out to where you maximize off time. Like my last semester, all my classes were on three days - so I only had requirements on three days - the other four, I didn’t do anything. Now, the transition from online classes to in-class was a shock at first for me. I had been out of tradition school for 12 years when I went back so it was difficult at first. One of the things I love about online is I could learn when o was ready - like the middle of the night if I couldn’t sleep then I did that weeks lectures; on campus, I had to be ready to learn at the time of the class. Your ROTC classes - they won’t hold you past the allotted time and my cadre was very understanding of anything that involved school; like midterms, the cadre understood it was a busy week and if we asked we could take some time off to study or write or do what we needed to do. Then there was the technology shift. I was a pen and paper note taker, but every kid in my classes had some kind of device or computer; and we even took quizzes online so people would use phones or computers to take the daily quiz. It was really new to me. It takes some adjusting to, well, it did for me.

G2G ADO is literally the same as being in - the Army will PCS you to your school. You will be in a remote duty assignment and student detached to Fort Jackson. I got here and my school HR was incredible, she asked for my paperwork and she sent it to Jackson for in-processing. You get your Army pay for whatever rank you were, you get BAH, Medical is the same (remote Medical is a hassle), you are still enlisted. The cadre treats you a little different because you aren’t a cadet, you are still subject to UCMJ and everything. For breaks, my PMS said I could take leave if I wanted to leave the area or I could just take the time off. So, I just took the time off and built up two years of leave. Christmas break I had to call our cadre Senior NCO to check-in. During the summer, my PMS has me assist the University ROTC recruiter, so I just talked to students about the program. The summer training was actually nice because I was pretty bored sitting around, you get a lot of time. Also, your time at school counts towards your retirement, you never break service.

For your TIS, there are waivers if you are past ten years. I’m not as familiar with that aspect because I was under ten years but I have heard of guys who were ten plus years. At my summer training, my Platoon has a 13 year SFC who was G2G ADO. So it is possible.

If you need anymore info, let me know. G2G is an incredible program and a amazing opportunity, I know a lot of people had heard of it but no one really understood it when I was enlisted.

Sorry for the late reply, Im deployed right now and did not receive an update. Appreciate the information I have read through the pamphlet and everything seems pretty straight forward. I know I'm not submitting a packet this "award year" (what ever the heck that is) but I'm better prepared when that time comes. Thanks!

The process has changed a lot since last year, I just got accepted this year and they cut down the required documents drastically. They have set up in a 2 phase process now where they have a board review your packet and if you get selected to move on to phase 2 that is where they review your waivers. If you don't require any waivers then that means you will receive an offer. Theres only like 4 or 5 documents that they require now by the February date then all the other documents like your school acceptance and PMS letter they will work with you almost all the way until April. I would definitely try and apply this year if you are 30, once you hit the over 33 age bracket it becomes more difficult to get the CG approval.

Also if you apply to a certain school and submit your packet then realize you want to change schools they will allow you to change it as long as you get accepted to the new school.
