It's been a minute, but I remember DJ as the singularly worst smelling place I have ever been -- I'm sure it has changed -- Good Luck

Absolutely CSM! DJ may not be the armpit of the world but you can definitely smell it from there.

It is the hottest place I've ever been in my life. It has been over a decade for me but it was notable for being both a joint base between branches of the US military, and between different militaries from different countries. Some of the KYARNG is there right now, and we had a couple of 12bs go with the infantry that went because they were short, but I don't have the dudes number anymore to ask him what is different.

If you are from a cold weather place do as much as you can to acclimate to the heat. We had a record of something like 31 days over a hundred before I went and it was still much hotter over there. It is right by the ocean so it draws in humidity, so even though it is a desert the feels like temp is much higher. The hottest day we had was 118, but the feels like temp was over 130, and I left in June. I imagine July and August are scorching.

They had the military version of starbucks, I can't remember its name because I don't drink coffee, and had just put in a new Subway as we were getting ready to leave. Joes used to be three to a CLU and Sgts used to be two to a CLU.
