I keep getting conflicted answers for this, and AR 11-6 is confusing me as well: I'm enlisting as a Reserve 38B (Civil Affairs Specialist), I'm already proficient in two languages on the "Immediate Investment Languages" list (Arabic - Levantine & Yemeni) - I was wondering whether I'm entitled to FLPB as a non-linguist MOS and whether such language even makes any difference in the Reserve?

Thank you,

You will find the military uses many different methods of financial incentives and personnel recruiting strategies.

One of those is throwing bonus money out to potential candidates for the sake of hoping to improve recruitment numbers. So, when demand is high things like bonuses for in demand language skills where language is not a requirement for the MOS happen. The military wants to at lest retain that language skill somewhere in it's ranks in surplus if they can't land it in a language MOS.

The ONLY ones to know this definitively are going to be recruiters. Bonus funds turn on and off all the time. Sometimes they run out and are first come first serve, and all the conditions regarding the bonuses vary just as frequently.

The recruiters are also the ONLY ONES that are going to be able to line you up with all the documentation that would even remotely put you on the path toward actually getting PAID the bonus.

Join nearly 2 million former and current members of the US military, just like you.
