Anyone attended ALC at Gowen field recently, how was it?

SFC Moysard, thanks for the response. Just was curious about housing and overall school atmosphere. Also is there any time off on weekends? I will be flying there so was thinking about getting a rental car, any places nearby? any advice that you can offer will be extremely helpful. I will be in the 91F ALC course. I was told there was only eight of us, is that typical?

The academy is located across the runway from the airport. Tons of rental places right at the airport. Boise has a decent night life and plenty of stuff to do, when you have the time. Housing is all brand new. It's a very professional academy and you're treated like an NCO while you're there unless you give them reason to not. Free time is totally dependent on where you are in the POI. They actually do train to standard and not time (unless time is the standard). If your class is ahead of schedule they aren't going to make you pick up cigarette butts at the PX so they can keep you until 1700. We always tried to make the academy the one we would have wanted to attend and not get in the rut of "this is how we do it because they always do it this way".

Advice? Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut. Don't sharpshoot the cadre. How they do things at the unit, doesn't matter. How the reg says it's done is how the POI is written. Be professional with them and they will be professional with you. This is a CASCOM and TRADOC Center of Excellence and they take a lot of pride in that. If you struggle, ask for help. Every one of the instructors will help you be successful. They aren't there to fail anyone and will do everything they can to ensure you pass. Be fit. Know you can pass height/weight or tape if need be. Be ready to take your PT test. Brush up on your D and C. It's not a grade maker but you will do platoon formations and in ranks inspections. You will march. You will conduct PT. Make sure your uniforms are correct and serviceable. Be ready for the cold. It's not warm here right now.

Enjoy your time there. You will learn what you need to learn and you will meet some great people.
