I’m currently on a CONUS deployment. My reverse pass was denied because my s/o is not my spouse or family. Is this per regulation?

Thank youMSG (Join to see) Will do. It’s just upsetting because soldiers (leadership included) do all of those things I mentioned the pass allows you to do without pass request approval. I try to do things the right way and I feel like I’m being punished. Lose-Lose.

SGT (Join to see) - so technically, you could stay at your neighbor's house. what is to stop you from staying at your own home?

Well not really, it does have a travel restriction. You’re only allowed a certain mileage from JOA. Also you can’t really go home since we’re all from FL and we’re in a different state. SrA John Monette

Ok it sounds like your command made up some type of pass. If it's only allowed for certain individuals and not others, yeah I'd be going to complain. JAG. IG. EO if it might fall under that somehow.

So, your Commander implemented a local policy to give Soldiers some time off with their spouses and you're upset because it doesn't apply to you because you aren't married? Take it up with your Commander then. But, as long as it isn't illegal, unethical, or immoral, your Commander has wide latitude to establish and conduct morale incentives as he sees fit.

Just to clarify, the reverse pass doesn’t give anyone “time off.” You work if you’re scheduled to. It only grants the privileges that I’ve mentioned before. There would be no difference in benefit between a single or married soldier using a reverse pass. Truth be told, I do feel that the policy is unethical and unreasonable and I’ll bet my check they do too.

SFC (Join to see), when I asked him what a Reverses Pass is, this is what he explained it to be: "Exactly, our commander implemented something called a reverse pass. It’s different from a regular pass in the sense that you may not go home. However, you are allowed to drive non-gsa rentals, rent other hotel rooms and stay there overnight w/ family. They denied my request because my visitor is not family. I’m pissed. It’s like my leadership is making up rules that are not backed by regulations."

To me, this doesn't feel/smell right.
