I am a 35X arriving to Fort Huachuca in August. I was contacted by my sponsor today and told I am slotted to report to B Co, 309th MI BN. He is not sure why and neither am I. It is a HUMINT and CI training unit and has no 35X billets. It's not for the 1SG position and I'm not the only X in bound. Anyone have any insight as to why I would be going here?

You are probably being sent to hold there until staff positions or 1SG positions open up. There is a massive re-org of NCOs going on right now because they want as many senior NCOs on platform as possible. I wouldn't get to comfortable there, there is a lot of shuffling going on at Huachuca right now.

But Ft Huachuca is one of the best kept secrets as far as a accompanied duty station

I worked at 309th as a 35X. B co at that time also had the BN HQ. The S3 NCOIC is a 35X position. Back in the late 80's 309th trained the 96Bs.

Worked there for a while. I'd agree that they probably need a 1SG somewhere.

I retired out of Huachuca and then worked on post till last year, but still have a lot of friends down there, so I will reach out to them with this questions and see what they say.
