If you are interested in this because of QMP, you get one of two codes to accompany you RE4 code and if you get the one that relates to the voluntary discharge you don't get half step pay. My best understanding is that sending in your character memos is stating that you do not want to be separated and if you selected the option to sep on the initial notification you would receive nothing. Please correct me anyone from HRC is I'm wrong.

So if you take the Involuntary Discharge, you still get the Half Sep?
That is my understanding of the reading I've been doing

I don't think it matters which option you selected on the notification memo. It's what you do after you've been notified of being selected for QMP that will determine whether you will get a voluntary or involuntary discharge. If you get picked up for QMP your options are to retire (if eligible), voluntary sep (90 days to get out), do nothing (involuntary sep with 1APR16 ETS) or appeal the decision. If you appeal and win you stay in. If you appeal and lose it's involuntary separation.
