I'm in search of an online masters program for Professional Counseling. The only university that meets all of my requirements is Liberty University. I was just wondering if anyone wouldn't mind sharing their experience with pursuing their online degree with Liberty University?

If anyone has other universities that I might check out, that would be great.

My CO's husband did his Masters through Liberty Online. It was very legitimate as Colleges go, he had a lot of homework, and was constantly challenged in his classes but his degree is never questioned because of the Reputation Liberty has.

I hope this helps.

Sir,

Thank you for the feedback. Would you happen to know what degree he received?

I think it was an MBA, but don't quote me on that.

Below is the link explaining the online and resident course types.

BLUF: They have entirely online Masters programs.

Thank you for your answers! I am a student of psychology, and I know for sure that education for the army is the most important thing now. It will be more convinient to study online because you don`t have to waste time for going to campus. Also I think that now all universities should accept such specialties under a simplified procedure, because everyone should understand army values, which are important in our time. I found interesting materials on this topic here: https://samploon.com/free-essays/overcoming-adversity/ and used them because they seemed to me to be of very high quality, so I recommend you to read them. Thank you for your question and such an interesting topic for discussion. I hope that 2022 will be the most crisis-free year of this century, and we will not experience any more troubles like pandemic, war, etc. I wish you all peace. Thank you a lot for sharing your expirience!

SFC Ewing,

My Wife is currently going for her Masters in Professional Counseling through Liberty Online. It is challenging for her to say the least and she definitely is the academic in the marriage. She also has to complete her practicum by completing her hours under a Licensed Professional Counselor or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker before she can take her second part of classes. The second part of classes consist of three classes that she has to spend a week for each class on campus. It also doesnt help that we have 4 mini me's running around. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions let me know and I will ping them off of her. Good luck!

SSG Mayfield,

Thank you for the information. It pretty much helps me narrow my decision. Please tell your wife good luck and if I may ask her for some advice in studies in the future, it is greatly appreciated.

I have to echo what others have already said...Liberty is a VERY military friendly school, but also challenging. Their online assistance is also very good. The few times I have run into issues, ironically all while overseas, their online chat representatives have easily assisted in resolving them quickly.

All my courses have been online thus far--a huge benefit as it does not interfere with deployments and detachments. I am six courses into the MBA program, taking two 8-week classes (B & D terms) each semester to avoid the technology fee, and using TA to pay tuition. [SPC Michael Bogenschutz--if you are interested in the MBA program, you can switch from MMAL to MBA after successfully completing BMAL 500, 590, and GRST 500. BUSI 561, 520, and 530 are common to both programs and BMAL 500 counts as an elective course for the MBA. Just something to consider.]

Liberty has up until this point given a tuition discount to match the amount paid by TA ($250/credit hour). So your only expenses are books and any course fees. I believe that is changing starting this fall semester for graduate level course tuition. The new rate that Liberty is discounting to is $275/credit hour (undergrad is still $250/credit hour), which means military graduate students will have to pay $25/credit hour out of pocket (in addition to books and any fees--not all classes have fees).

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I recently went back to Liberty again to work on my Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree. I am in the 30 hour program within Curriculum and Instruction. My end goal is a Doctor of Education, but like previously mentioned there are residency requirements. They usually take a week on campus per residency.

I don't know anything about Liberty. One piece of advice is that a lot of diploma mills target the military, and the diploma with $2 will buy you a cup of coffee.

Whichever you choose, ensure they are fully accredited by one of the accepted accreditation agencies and all your units can transfer.

SFC Ewing,

I just posted a "thanks-all" note to several people who helped in my graduate school selection. That caused your question to pop up. I have just completed my fourth class through Liberty Online. I am very pleased with their "military friendliness" but that is in no way suggesting that they water their programs down. They are tough, with a high requirement for written work. I am in the Masters of Public Administration/Public Policy program and am very pleased so far. The instructors have been willing to help with deadlines, but have high standards, which I appreciate, shouldn't the work be hard? Best of luck, don't hesitate to PM or hit me up on global if you have specific questions.

1SG Wedding,

Thanks for the information. I just completed my first class and it was indeed a challenge in itself. Not to mention my family life and workload on top of it. I must agree, my professor, the counseling office staff, and military affairs were more than helpful through this entire process. I will definitely hit you up in the future for additional advice if available. Thanks again.

1SG Wedding,

I hope all is going well with your studies. I have completed two courses thus far. Both were extremely challenging, but the LU staff and professors were amazing with support. Thanks for the info.

I am currently working with Liberty on a Masters of Human Services Counseling. (Military Resiliency) My spouse completed her Masters with them last summer, they are a great university and the online standards are the same as if you were attending a classroom. They provide a great deal of benefits for Military students to include the most affordable tuition I could find for a master’s program. Overall I am happy to be a student at Liberty and I would definitely recommend the school to anyone interested in this type of school. (Christian)

I start my Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Project Management in a couple weeks. I will come back and let you know how my first semester is going. So far I like the university and the staff has been more than helpful in preparing me to start taking classes.

Hey Battle that is what my next step will be. How long did you take in between your BSM-PM and your starting the MBA?

I'm not sure I understand your question. I'm currently enrolled in the MBA program with a concentration in Project Management. It's very challenging especially with my heavy workload. Liberty Online offers mini mesters so I am able to take two eight week courses back to back and it counts as me going part time.

I absolutely love them! I am doing the online program and there are 2 options that you can do. Either 4 16 week classes or 2 sets of 2 8wk classes. They are incredibly helpful as well!

I did both my undergraduate and graduate degree through Liberty. I would recommend them highly to anyone, but lost especially for Military, Police, Fire and EMS personnel.

Thanks for the input. I currently working on my Masters with them now. Very challenging, which I like and I love the interaction with the Professors. It's almost as if I'm in class. Thanks again.
