How should others honor and respect me? I don't expect it. Why should I? I simply served as I believe every able-bodied citizen should. Maybe we should turn this question around. Should we dishonor able-bodied citizens who don't serve? No, I don't think so either. However, I hope they don't expect me to honor and respect them...

Not sure how I can honor you, but I do respect you? Why, because you appear from our interactions to be honorable and worthy respect? You served, when other could have and did not and that, in my opinion is honorable and worth of respect too.
Should we dishonor those who didn't serve? No, unless they deserve to be dishonored and disrespected. I think people earn honor and dishonor, and respect and disrespect. Service to our Nation and others is one part of a much bigger picture.

SPC Margaret Higgins In all fairness it's an ongoing battle, but for the most part yes. I believe in the golden rule, "do unto others, as you would do unto them".

Don't know, don't care. Not sure there is any way they 'should' be honoring me? I am who I am and if they think something about me is honorable to them, then they may feel it worthy of their time to show me honor, or vice versa. Of course I am retired and would not allow someone to be disrespectful toward me while I was serving...still...but I think that is a different question.
