Are RP discussions getting too political? I put a 90 ban on my FB account because it is filled with negativity. I hate to do the same for RP?

I'd welcome a requirement that posts must have a least one tag which is directly related to the military; except for beer... maybe whiskey too... and skydiving.

CMSgt Virgil Horsley - I could buy that; or an algorithm which determines you're required a ratio of military to nonmilitary posts; military being the majority.

CMSgt Virgil Horsley - Serioulsly people post crap just for points or make dumb comments just for points like J " thanks for the share".

I wouldn't want to limit it strictly to military, because I learn all sorts of things about a wide range of topics from a lot of different people. For me, RP's strength is the shared bond we all have for either having served, or still serving, not just the military info I might come across (which is also of course very interesting.) I'd be happy to outright ban politics, though.

SN Greg Wright - I wouldn't want us to ban politics because our CinC (POTUS) is a politician. But I'd prefer discussions regarding him be limited to military issues.

Other than politics, I feel RP is getting way to negative. I wish the users on this site would focus on the positive to rebuild and help other people than just pointing fingers.

Sgt Wayne Wood - I am right there with you. But I am going to disengage from any other discussion on politics. I hope to bring more positivity in my life.

Sgt Wayne Wood -
I have my own views (most know I'm center-left, or in some cases, true neutral), but my goal isn't to push my agenda. It's more-so to unite everyone towards the same cause, which is to continue to build our country. It starts with understanding one another while being subjective to one's own values. I tend to not speak to one sided arguments because it goes nowhere.

PO1 Chris V. - I think you have a good idea. Putting your time into something makes you happy.

A negative President produces negativity. For example an RP member asked me to tone down disrespectful language towards Stump. In which I replied he was disrespectful towards women, minorities and the disabled and this man holds the highest position in the land so why should I show him any respect?

I've stated this many times before with the admins, but I still think RP has to come up with a way to allow us to stop certain topics and posts from certain users from appearing on our home page screen or in threads. Most other forums have that capability. My home page feed is filled with threads I have no interest in because the algorithim has determined that somewhere someone I connected to commented in a post, or someone I am not connected to, but who shares a connection with me made a post, and so it still spams my homepage.
Likewise, most forums have an ignore feature that prevents you from seeing any posts by a user you put on ignore. The block and unfollow functions in RP do not fill the bill. If there is a poster that I feel adds nothing to the threads but trolling that ruins otherwise good discussions, why should I not be able to block his comments from appearing at all? Same if a poster continually keeps making threads and updates on topics that I have no interest in. To tell us just to skip over them misses the point. First, you have to read it before you can tell it's another undesired post. I never figured out how those people who say "just don't read it" are able to keep their eyes from taking in the words. Plus, who wants to have to continually scroll through a bunch of troll/spam looking for the nuggets of good posts?
Admins, I hope you hear the voices of so many RP users who are telling you that this current system is not working for many of us, myself included. I just about deleted my account as it has become such a pain in the ass to wade through the crap. People are accustomed to and expect certain features that allow people to tailor their forum experience in a way that maximizes their enjoyment of the site. IMO RP seems to be stubbornly refusing to give us those features that are readily available on other sites. I think this is causing many users to tire of wading through the crap and so they just stop coming at some point. And that is a shame as RP has a lot to offer. But right now it has this fatal flaw that is holding it back and keeping it from being all it can be.

SSG James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" - pls correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that mean the post already appeared on my homepage and I saw it, and had to click on it to hide it from future viewings on the home page? That's too late. Plus, IIRC, that same thread would still appear if I went over to the new answers section and looked at stuff there.
All I'm saying is that I don't think I should have the algorithim force feed me stuff like "Obama never went to college at all!! Why isn't the mainstream media reporting this!!!" Or get a series of bible passages daily, which may be very interesting to some but not me. I should be able to put those people who post that, or the topic in general, on ignore so I don't have to read a bunch of stuff I just have no interest in. It's about makng the site personalized to the interests of the individual readers. We have long been past the "one size fits all" concept for web media products. In fact, the trend is towards ever more micro delineation of individual interests. It seems to me that RP is very far behind on this front.
If someone thinks " man, I really enjoy reading those news stories about stupid liberals, and that damn LTC M keeps ruining it by pointing out that it's all fake bullshit" then they should be able to put me on ignore and enjoy their fake bullshit without seeing my comments. Or even better, if I can keep from having to see their fake bullshit in the first place I won't feel obligated to set the record straight and it's a win- win for them, me and RP!

LTC (Join to see) - Sir,
As always, thanks for voicing your concerns and providing some constructive feedback. It's encouraging to have people who instead of saying "RP stinks!" reach out to us and say "I like RP and I want it to be better!"
This comment pretty much summed everything up for me: "It's about making the site personalized to the interests of the individual readers." Thats the ultimate goal and something we're working on.

Much of it isn't the topics themselves. It's that those conversing frequently descend into name calling and generalizations. Not everyone who disagrees with us is a bigot, or a buttercup, or unpatriotic. "Ad hominem" is a term with which some appear to be unfamiliar. We all want the same thing, a secure and prosperous USA. We disagree with how to get there. I do find it interesting that some post articles with which they disagree and point out the perceived flaws. Perhaps part of the fix is only posting what you agree with. Again, a tag directly related to the military would do us good as well.

I don't understand what there is to say about politics, I was taught that politics are not something that should be discussed, because the end result is never anything good. There are a million other things that we can discuss on this site.
