This may be a crazy question but I seen a few post that said since covid they aren’t making anyone do PT test or PT at school. Are thet doing PT at airborne school? I switched units to an airborne slot have been in my new guard unit for 5 months and I have a good PT on record. I just spoke to the retention NCO and re-enlisted yesterday in the guard for 6more years. So I am qualified. I can pass my pt test. Someone from my unit said I have to take a pt test before I can go. Do I have to take the test cause I thought they was exempt? I am just wondering are they testing at schools?

You have to take a PT test always before you go to Airborne school and your unit has to verify that you can run 5 miles in under 45 minutes and the flexed arm hang.

SGT Eric Davis look on the ARTB website for the entry requirements. I think your question is that you believe because the Army isn't doing APFT that means ARTB isn't. A school can set whatever entrance requirements they determine to be necessary such as pull-ups, bomb suit tests, runs, rucks, APFTs, or nomenclature exams.

I know this response is quite late but I went thru BAC right after OSUT (FEB 2021) when Covid was still big as an IET SM, and we did the flex arm hang for 10 seconds before even being allowed to start ABN training. We did run every other day usually anywhere from 1 mile to 3 miles but the furthest we ran was 3. Now weekends obviously we didn't do shit and on the days we didn't run it was like push-ups, sit-ups, and practicing PLFs, then breakfast, then training for the day, and then our free time. Hope that answers it.

*UPDATE ON THE UPDATE*
As of today the Battalion Commander said that we are not doing organized PT in the morning and running. My class in the first class for a year to do any PT and running.
That being said AS OF RIGHT NOW there is still no PT test.

Here is my Updated answer.
Quick answer - No.

At the moment Airborne school is not conducting an APFT or even doing morning PT or running anywhere.
Airborne school is the easiest school in the Army right now at the moment (Even the cadre say that).

Only down side to this is you have to quarantine here 2 weeks before school starts. Make sure you bring enough to keep you busy because you wont be allowed to leave the area. That means no PX or anything. Books, good 4G data to watch movies off Netflix or hulu, Nentendo switch doesn't matter because for a little over 2 weeks you will only be waking up eating, back to your barracks, then lunch then back to your barracks then dinner them back to your barracks for bedtime

You'll be in Benning for a total of 5 weeks not being able to go anywhere. I've been here 3 weeks. It's not bad, I've been napping a lot makes the time go by faster.

I saw some guys straight out of basic staying at Abrams Hall for a few day, but that was just a couple. They probably will put you in HHC in the "quarentine barracks" but hey, honestly it will only be for a few days and it will be a good break from Basic to Airborne. Yeah you'll be stuck in the bay with nothing to, but you can nap, play on your phone, read a book, anything as long as you don't leave.

Honestly my best advice is this.
1.Trust your gear
2.Trust your black hats (even though you will get tired of them)
3.Knees and feet together/eyes to the horizon

Most importantly this...
There was a marine who had a malfunction like 8 months ago and didn't make it.... You're more than likely going to hear that story every day and it'll mess with your head. A LOT of things went wrong for him unfortunately. This is safer than riding your motorcycle on a Sunday afternoon. With all the being said
4. Don't be a jump refusal.

Here's a few more minor things.
5. Don't fall asleep or even rest your eyes. Since you're a PFC you will be watched even harder. If they catch you doing ANYTHING besides what they say they will restart you.
6.treat your reserve like a baby. You're gonna see a bunch of people get restarted 3rd week because they pulled the reserve on accident. I saw people do it from E1 PVTS all the way up to Captains.

You got it man

You are required to take a PT test before you go and you will take one on the first day of training. Half of your company will wash-out on the PT test alone. Airborne School requires you to be physically fit and mentally tough. If you show any weakness at any time during training the Black hats will exploit that and try to make you quit, (go the the White House for some donuts...). Just remember you are there to do a job, which is to complete your training and get your wings, and the Black Hats are there to make sure only the worth graduate. My advice is to be over-prepared.

I'm getting ready to go myself in 2 weeks.
My buddy just got back and said that they aren't doing PT tests. They are still running place to place but no PT test before, but that could change. There are a few things I KNOW.
1. You have to quarantine for 2 weeks before (be there a few days short of 5 weeks)
2. Even on our days off and at the end of the day we aren't allowed to leave barracks. Straight from training to barracks, no gym, no store, no seeing the city. It will be a long 5 weeks especially being in the same sleeping quarters as privates right out of basic. I've already stocked up on books and switch games and books.
3. We will still run everywhere, but taking PT test is subject to change. As of 3 weeks ago no PT test were being taken, just showing up with proof you passed your last PT test (DA Form 705).

When are you heading that way man? If you have to go beginning of January for quarantine I'll be there too!

I haven’t gotten a date yet cause my unit want me to take another PT test cause I’m new to the unit but my last pt test is still good. Did your unit make you take a recent pt?
Also I am going to the police academy in January so I will for sure after I finish that.

What all you had to do to get in?

SGT Eric Davis They just had me take like 3 PT tests in a row. I'm new to the unit as well but I was suppose to go March last year but COVID kept screwing it up. It's been such a pain with getting schools right now because of all this COVID stuff. I will say by the time you are done with police academy they may start with PT tests again because of the vaccine coming out but who knows. Ill let you know in a couple of weeks the exact time line and how it was for me.

Yes, you do PT. I was there in June. We didn’t do PT or the APFT during ground week, but we did during tower week. And you’ll run to the harness shed during jump week.

Not over the summer, no. We just did the flex arm hang as a “safety mitigation measure.”

Yes they are- aren't units still doing PT? AFPT is gone and ACFT is in limbo, but you will do PT in some fashion.

That’s what I thought if you had a good one on record you was good.I also just passed a NCOES in OCTOBER. So I was wondering why they trying to make me take one before I go now cause from what I am reading as long as you can do the hang that’s the hard part. I just don’t know why they trying to get me to take a PT TEST

For a long time it has been the requirement of all DA/DOD schools to require a good PT test prior to showing up- so they wouldn't be wasting money if you showed up UNSAT. Need to talk to your Schools NCO.
