Got call from the girl asking about SFAS. I recommended to get a short tab first.

Edit: - Let me just add, before I get basted any more, "the Girl" is my soon to graduate West Point Daughter. She's a stud!

COL I spent most of my time in Group over the years I have worked with women in lots of different environments. My last tour in Afghanistan one of the Agencies gave me a female not as an A TM operator but as a asset with a special set of skill for the 2 section. She was as professional and as competent as anyone. She was a beast, because of her great work we captured and or killed lots of bad guys.

No she was not an "operator" per se, but I feel if a female wants to do the ugly business of being a team guy. I say get strong get lots of endurance and dont quit.

My thought of a female joining the regiment, well, I say as long as they dont change the standards cool, come on. Hell I will shake her hand and say welcome to the regiment.

Yea, I don't know about girls in the Regiment. Though I do know some girls I think could hang but I wouldn't want it to be my daughter.

I cringe every time this post pops up in my timeline. The reference to “girls” seems so out of place these days

Sir,
Not sure if it was a typo “the girl”, but words mean something. If it wasn’t a typo, know this. Whether folks want to acknowledge it out loud or not, females have served in various positions on the front lines for decades. I may not have been SFAS, but I served in an organization as the only female NCO along with one female PVT. We did route clearance in Iraq and then had to Jump to Afghanistan in order to complete our tour. I learned to use the restroom in moving vehicles, keep myself clean on the move, and sleep where ever I could. My dudes never crossed any lines, nor would I allow it. I did my job as a Sapper Sr. Medic well. I was battle field promoted and recognized for my accomplishments; not as a girl but a MEDIC. My chain of command, when putting together their “A team” for special missions that came up sent me out; not my male counterparts. I did PT with them, trained with them and everything as a Soldier. That is what the focus should be, can that female soldier train, carry her on ruck, and smash the hell out of her duties and responsibilities, not that she’s a girl. Will she one want to have children? Maybe.. Will she have a menstral cycle? Yep, maybe... So what to all of that, can she do the damn job asked of her, without placing extra judgement and obstacles on her because of her gender.
If a male Soldier called and asked the same question and you honestly would have told her the samething, then you did good. If that is not the same guidance you would have given a male Soldier, take a step back ask yourself how come?
There may very well be a transgender Soldier in your formations already, it’s not like they have to tell you that they had the change before the PCS’d (lol).

The girl in my soon to graduate West Point daughter. She's a stud!! If the boy, my son, would have asked I would not have given him the same advise. I would have told him to go for it and then make sure he get his short tab along the way. Being realistic, if a girl wants to compete for a long tab they are more likely to drop ignore her but if she has a short tab already they will notice. I have been grooming her for ranger school since she was 10- way before anybody talked about girls in Ranger school. It didn't matter that she would not have been eligible to go to ranger school but she was going to be physically fit no matter what. Both kids.

I love that you’ve been grooming her since she was 10. Teaching her she is always good enough
