The U.S. military needs a more focused war plan specific to China, especially after China’s recent declaration of an air defense zone over the East China Sea, a group of defense analysts told a prominent House subcommittee Wednesday.

China will not go to war with the one that pays their bills with interest off of the Treasury Notes they hold. It may be egocentric sounding but the world needs the USA to be around. When our economy tanks the world's follows. Our rate of consumption keeps the international economy alive.

This is one of the reasons we tie China to us so closely. A war with us would be utterly devastating to their economy as we cancelled all debt, invalidated their T-notes and shut off trade.

It wouldn't be a walk in the park for us either, but their economy is actually pretty fragile.

SGT Jeremiah B. - Actually, I'd argue that it would be equally devistating for our economy as well. A large portion of goods shipped to the US come from China (Walmart much, lol).

I served in China as the Asst US Army Atache. China is s growing threat. We have war plans. What we need is a president and civilian/military leaders with the will to stand up to China. Increasingly China views the U.S. as weak and indecisive.

I agree that China is a threat to US National security, sir. However, the Chinese military is highly dependent on trade with the US. So much so, that a a crash in the Chinese economy as a result of war with the US would effectively cripple their ability to make war against us.

It would probably cripple the economy if we did. I doubt anything will happen.

We are already in a conflict with China except the shooting hasn't started yet. China can't really flex it's muscles yet because they are still in the middle of modernizing their military, and the US is still the Worlds Major Military Power. This will change because America's military strength is weakening. Once China feels that she has at least reached Naval and Air parity with the US, she will then move to strengthen her position in the Far East Region, both economically and militarily.

They want to be a super power. That's going to mean saber rattling on occasion and some pretty interesting espionage cases. The USN is currently doing intentional and rather flagrant incursions into this new space to make a point. I think we're a long way off from an actual conflict with them though.

As long as China doesn't believe they can surpass our military forces, then I don't think anything more than butting heads will occur. Disagreements between Democracy and Communism aside, our economies are both too intertwined and until we can be dependent from one another completely, conflict would cause too much collateral damage on both sides and most likely lead to a collapse of both nations.

Brian, agreed.
Any "war with China" news broadcasts should be filed as "media fear-mongering". Will US bomb the iPad factories? No. Will China bomb people who buy iPads? No. The media likes to talk about potential wars. Fear and uncertainty sells, and the media likes broadcasts which sell.

I don't think the economics of either country allow a real war to come to fruition. Now indirect conflict with us supporting one force and China supporting another has been happening for quite some time in multiple areas. Africa, and the Middle East come to mind. We know China if friendly with several nations in Africa and recently signed an agreement to open a port in Pakistan, but wait wasn't Pakistan an ally of ours? An ally of convenience, until the checks stop coming.

Ohhhhhhhh I would think so....with the weakness of the current administration and the debt that China has secured from us.....it will happen within the next 5-10 years as soon as the Chicoms get a stronger navy....

SFC (Join to see), since this is not a classified forum I am somewhat surprised by your comments underneath your question. Tension in the East China Sea over the Spratley Islands, relations with Taiwan, etc go back decades. There are periodic exercises in the region, observation of the area ... and there are "most likely" current and developing OPLANS CONPLANS, etc., within PACOM.
