My wife and I try, but our autistic daughter is very affectionate and has zero sense of stranger danger. She often goes running up to people, particularly older women, and climbs in their laps and hugs/cuddles on them. We try to tell her not to do it and apologize to the person, but they never seem to mind.

THAT, John, is as it should be. I have an autistic Facebook daughter; who calls me Mummy. I love and adore her. She does say things in inappropriate places; but nobody cares. (minds.)

I know the "Grandma" types that she does it to don't mind, but we as parents are worried that she'll do it to the wrong person and they will get offended. Or God forbid, do it when we take our eyes off her for a second and they snatch her up.

San Francisco, where I live, is a very friendly city; I find. Some people don't trust me; but that is rare.
