What will be the impact on recruiting and retention if National Guard members must drill for 60 to 100 days each year?

The U.S. Army's top officer is planning to more than double the number of required annual training days for some National Guard units to reinforce the service's shrinking active force.

The service's current strategy of reducing the active force from 490,000 to 450,000 by 2018 is forcing leaders to depend on the National Guard to assist with potential future contingency missions, according to Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley.

The only feasible way I can see that happening is with two weekends a month, with those extra weekends being MUTA 6's

Oh I totally agree. But I think if they're going to implement the extra days I feel that that is the better method rather than adding another AT

I would think it would have to grow into a MUTA 8 instead of two weekends. I have a lot of Soldiers who travel from other states or from the other side of the state to make drill. AT would grow as well, but you can count on the employers howling about this for a long time to come.

That's a better idea. We've got a guy from Florida, and several scattered far and in between, so they wouldn't be able to do two

I think it would results in longer drills once a month than multiple drills during a month. However longer drills does mean more of an impact on an employer.

Could be done depending on how those additional UTAs are used. We did additional time for a year or two prior to an Iraq deployment.
