Are you finding that you are applying what you learned in the military to civilian life?

Every day, just had to tone down my voice and bull in a china shop philosophy! When faith and the word take over, that is why I loved the military, the rules are written and easy to follow and be an over achiever, perfect for me!

The best training in the world. It has been a foundation for daily and spiritual living.

I stay in shape (kind of) - I gained a lot of weight after I got out but a recent health scare convinced me to watch what I eat, start walking, and recently going back to the gym. I'm not where I want to be but I've lost weight and noticed an improvement in my strength and stamina. Plus my blood work all came back normal after my health scare.
I'm involved with veteran's groups
I work for a defense contractor for the Air National Guard where all of my contractor co-workers are also veterans and our customer are active duty National Guardsmen.

Bravo, PO1 Miller!!!
John, I gained weight- a lot of it; after I got out. I have since lost all of it; and then some. I am in petites now. I highly encourage you to keep going. You have self-discipline; and perseverance.
I am so glad that your blood work all came back normal.
Kudos for all of your accomplishments; John.

Thank you SPC Margaret Higgins
I'm still "over weight" but my last check-in with the VA dietician revealed that I am no longer "obese," merely overweight. I realize it will be a long road, but I'll get there eventually. I struggled with my weight for most of my Navy career, mostly due to lack of exercise and poor eating habits, so I would always take extreme measures to make weight. Laxatives, sauna sessions, not eating, and taking energy/fat burning/weight loss supplements.
It is slow-going and I think that is partially due to my age (I'll be 41 next month), and I may have the VA check my blood work again to see what my testosterone levels are (and if they're low hopefully get approved for Testosterone Replacement Therapy) and maybe that will help but dammit I will get there. I have a very active 3 year old daughter who loves playing with her daddy and I want to be able to keep up with her.
