Is this day important to you? I'm kind of neutral about Earth Day, but I remember very fondly a tree planting event we had in our housing area at Fort Meade back in the late 80s. That was a fun experience for our entire family, so it's not totally unimportant to me.
This link explains why it's important to the Army:

What are your thoughts?

We should take care of the world like we take care of our house hold. We do not crap where we eat.
However, the Bible states that this world is reserved for fire (I think the verse is in Revelation). My point is is that this world will eventually burn out regardless of how much we try to reduce our carbon footprint. Nothing lasts forever.

No, I just burned through a bunch of paper today due to the Army beaurocratic bs. Thought that is why we have e-forms like the new , and horrible, PDF version of the NCOER.

I am all about stewardship, but not at the expense of lives or operational success.
Did you know the Founder of Earth Day killed his wife.... and composted her?

Earth Day co-founder killed, composted girlfriend
Ira Einhorn was on stage hosting the first Earth Day event at the Fairmount Park in Philadelphia on April 22, 1970. Seven years later, police raided his closet and found the "composted" body of his ex-girlfriend inside a trunk.

In the Military, whenever we do anything, afterwards we have to "police up" the area.
It's not hard to clean up our own messes. It's not hard to take measures to make our area cleaner. It's not hard to shut off the light when you leave the office. Doing the right thing, ends up helping both the Earth and the Military. Besides, if it goes away what will we defend?

Your post reminds me of the old adage to leave things better than you found them. If we all did that, the earth would be a better place.

That should always be our standard.
When we move into a new barracks, go the field, deploy, or interact with our community.
