Have you considered an application to become a Warrant Officer? Those are master technicians and the subject matter experts of their craft!

I always tried to do the hard assignment, take leadership roles whenever possible, earned an undergraduate degree and certifications to compliment my military MOS
Spent most of my career in tactical units or at the ready for rapid deployment with short notice. When a position came available volunteered for deployments within my branch not MOS specific
Also maintained a current Top Secret clearance until my retirement unlike the majority of my peers

If you have or are working on your college degree that great and it will serve you well in the future. Depending on your MOS you can also look into classes that relate to it, ie if you are a commo guy then a A+ certification would help on the military and the civilian side. Just a thought.

Ranger, jumpmaster, and pathfinder. Sargeant Audie Murphy or Oscar Morales would look great as well.

If you are gonna stay enlisted, Drll Sergeant or Recruiter. If you're wanting to go Warrant or Officer just start doing the packets, also get the highest level endorsement you can.

As a SSG, the big ones are the SFC billets. EO, Sharp, MRT, and IG. Of you can work your way into one of those positions and the school, it would help you towards promotion tremendously.

Sounds like you are on the right track, now start thinking outside the box. Most Soldiers shy away from the MRT, EO, MFT and maybe battle staff because they don't want the extra duty. The truth is, these school are very important in the Big Army's eyes. Depending on whether you have completed your SSG duties for your MOS, try and take battle staff. for example, if you were an Infantryman and had over 24 months of squad leader time it looks good if you worked in operations. This shows the boards that you are versatile. Lastly, look at your career map, most are online at the HRC site. This will give you all the details for career progression for your MOS.

Ok I never heard the word versatile, it makes sense.. For SM attempting to do 20yrs+ you need to see and survive the bigger picture of the army. Thank you for the enlightenment.

Look into course such as SHARP, EA, EO, also look at doing squad leader or platoon sergeant. If you are sitting in a slot closed w 2S (battle staff). Get to it as soon as possible. These are the major things the boards look at also join the NCOA and if you can show up at the annual ball and internet these all will help. Of course they are looking at who is self improving and a big one is college if you have a associates then be working on your bachelor and so forth. Volunteering in your community is another biggie go do volunteer work and work towards your volunteer award. This should give you a good start
