So, I got in trouble on 31 May 2020. I was flagged for 5 months as a PV2 and then on 10 November 2020, I got a Field Grade Article 15 and got busted down to PV1, however, my leadership kept letting me wear a PV2 rank. Anyway, I did my extra duty for 45 days and got off that on 19 December 2020 and then went on block leave. When I got back from leave on 10 January 2021, my flag was removed and I was supposed to get promoted twice to PFC on 1 March 2021 but I got flagged again for ABCP so I wasn’t promoted. I got off ABCP on 1 June 2021 and today on 5 August 2021, I checked my erb and it said that I got PV2 on 1 August 2021 but my leadership told me today that I’m supposed to get PFC so I don’t know what’s going on, I need some insight. One more note, I came in the Army on 20 August 2019 so I almost have 2 years time in service.

You got a field grade Art 15 reducing you to E-1.

I think you need to worry more about getting your proverbial fecal matter together more than what month you pin on PFC. With each adverse action you receive, there is a counseling statement explaining what to expect, also in your FG paperwork you received what your new date of rank would be.

Your actions caused this. Read the regulations and understand them. You are very early in your career and you can overcome it. Contrition and hard work are the only two things that will fix this. The next formation you stand in, look at the soldiers standing to the left and right of you and KNOW that you are going to have to work TWICE as hard as them to gain the trust and confidence of your leadership to get the same level of respect as them. Keep your head down and do the work. The rank will come later.

PV2 is your correct rank if I'm tracking your dates right.

PV1 DOR was 11Nov20. Doing the 6 months TIG, you would have gotten PV2 on/around 11Jul21 had it not been for all the flags you got. March 2021 promotion to PFC would be impossible because waivers are not authorized for those that got an Article 15 that resulted in a reduction.

Flagging actions will delay promotion. Then after flag is lifted, Commander still has to approve or disapprove the 4187 for promotion. Just because you're eligible doesn't make it automatic.

Again, PV2 is the correct rank. Feb '22 is when you'll be eligible for PFC as long as you don't screw up again.

PV2 (Join to see) - I get the point you are trying to make. I empathize with it but counter to that you have to look at the simple point that those SM's are, while skating by, NOT getting on the Commands negative radar as you have. Had you not mis-stepped twice, you likely would have been on par with the others or ahead of them if you are a hard charger.

You need to put this behind you and learn from it. Get yourself squared away, stay off the ABCF program and maintain and exceed standards. Dwelling on this will only lead to trouble, I can assure you. Learn from it, do not be hindered further by it.

PV2 (Join to see) - Skating to E4 is just something that happens when you dot all your t's and cross all your i's. Being a Specialist isn't quite frankly special, it's on you to make it more than the most common rank in the Army.

You'll get there if you just keep pushing, see the thing about the guys that just skate to E4 is they don't take it too much further than that. So here you are, in trouble and you're learning from it. There they are, smoking and joking. Who's going to have the bigger drive to fix their issues and make SGT? You or them?

Only you can answer that after you make your TIG.

As a side note, your leadership messed up by letting you wear PV2 rank when you had been busted to PVT. They might have done it with good intent, but that intent has colored your perception of DOR, TIG, and TIS, that's a lesson to learn from and take with you.

SPC (Join to see) this has to be one of the most profound statements from a SPC that I've ever read. "Being a Specialist isn't quite frankly special." That is the boldest stuff I've ever seen a SPC say. You'll make a great NCO.

MSG (Join to see) - I hope so, at the least I will try. I'm by no means perfect and I've got my own baggage, much like our young brother here. That said, I just want to take care of my guys, and sometimes that means some hard truth, Specialist isn't that special. Hopefully they go further than I do, go on and do good things, and in turn take care of their guys too.

That's the thing PV2 Watts must learn, sometimes being taken care of isn't having things done your way or as fast as you want it to be. There's a lot of things to improve in the Army, but sometimes, a lot of times, that thing to improve is ourselves. It's not always easy, and sometimes it's full of failure before you see some success, but it's worth it to try.

Wow that is a cluster to read. So sounds like from all of that that while your command let you wear your PV2, they were not supposed to. So going by regulations, you got your PV2 on 1 Aug 2021. You have TIS no problem, but your time in grade does not start until the effective date you got your PV2. I am not completely sure but you are not eligible for a TIG waiver due to your being busted and numerous flags so you are stuck at being PV2 for 4 months. So you can look to pin on PFC Dec 2021 or Jan 2022 provided you do not screw up again.

PV2 (Join to see) - That is not relevant. You got busted down and you have been flagged multiple times. Each time you get busted a rank your TIG resets to the date effective of your new rank. So while you might have TIS (Time in Service) due to your being busted, you lack the TIG ( Time in Grade) for the promotion.

My advice is do what it takes to stay in shape, keep your nose clean and be that model soldier from this point on and you should have no problems with promotions.

It won’t matter what the command team says but what paperwork was sent up for your Article 15. So, like everyone is saying you start over for TIG each time. PV2 (Join to see)
