I'm a 25B wondering whether to get out or reclass? My ETS is 2019 Dec, so I'd have about four years of experience as my BNs Sysadmin. I have a TS/SCI that'll still be valid. My certs as of now include Sec+ and MCSA Win10. Working on some more, and hopefully promote to SGT this year, but I need to start deciding things and planning.

I'm thinking of getting out and taking my kin of 3 to Colorado.

I think you have to look into existing employment oppertunities in Colorado and the immediate requirment of your skill set locally. Reach out ASAP to potential employeers and see how difficult it is to secure employment. If you are not locked in on a job, consider if you are willing to vacate your paycheck and benifits and how that will potentially impact your 3 kiddos. If there is a better oppertunity waiting on you, go for it. If you are just assuming your DD214 and clearance will open doors for you, I would play it safe. If you are currently hating going to formation everyday, maybe you should persue a reclass or at a minimum a new assignment. Sometimes all you need is a new set of challenges to master to stay engaged and progress. Maybe an overseas accompained tour with oppertunites to experience new things with your family will motivate your decision. Best of luck to you either way.

I'm hesitant to reclass. Hell even to pick up stripes. I feel it'd be an honor to mentor and guide troops but I see SGTs in my BN being tasked to do every little thing. My last boss was the UPL/Master Driver/Armorer/S2 and S6 automations NCO. I barely ever saw her. I never want to be in a position like that, cause I really do enjoy my job.

Only you can answer that definitively.

What brings you to consider getting out? What brings you to consider to reclassify? Do you like the Army?

The Army was always meant to be a stepping stone. Idk if it's cause I got screwed into being in the same ADA unit for my whole contract, but there's nothing about the military I can say I like. I don't see the point in a lot of what we do. I considered 17C because I hear those guys are only concerned with their job and their job only.

If you are a first termer and this unhappy, get out. Find a GS job and buy your time back. If you are young, you can always change your mind and let me tell you, the officer pay after several years enlisted is pretty great. If I was to do it again with what I know about the other branches, Navy is where I would go for how they treat their seniors. Figure out what you want to do before getting out and don't let the fact you are a vet fool you that you are something special compared to civilians. So many vets bank on that and nothing else; you should make your resume great and stand on its own merits and the veteran status is what puts you over the top. When looking at jobs and education, find something that will make you live comfortable and it does not have to be something you love. I wanted to be a military pilot but my vision at the time stopped that. I became a military nurse and now love to fly as a hobby. A college degree is not everything if you chose a topic that does not pay. I wish I had the time to learn to weld because there is good money there and really is more beneficial than a history degree. Most important, seek counseling from many sources as getting out may not be the best, staying in, or getting a college degree may not. Find people that counsel you on the truth, not because they are biased towards a military branch or an educational program. I could care less whether you stay or go, whether you go get a four year degree or become a plumber, what I do care about is that people counseling you care to give you honest, unbiased facts that will guide you in making a decision best for you and your future.
