I pinned on my 5 on 1 Aug 2015 and I have asked many fellow NCO's when and how often I should receive and NCOER. I have been given various answers and worried about not having one yet. Am I due for one or should I have already had one? I am just not sure and would really like a sound answer or even the Reg for it. Any tips or ideas?

Not sure what the reg is, but you should be counseled at least quartly and the your first NCOER will be due yearly on the anniversary of your promotion. When you PCS, or if your rater leaves, you will get one mid-cycle, called a change of rater. That will become your new yearly due date.

Not to butt in but yes you should've been counseled within 30 days of your promotion effective date, and quarterly thereafter up until your annual is due

Yes, in theory. But it has been my experience that those counselings rarely happen. You should be more concerned about the yearly NCOER. Others have given you the reg. My suggestion is to make yourself familier with it and get with your leadership. Find out who your rater is and have a talk with him. Once they know you know, things will go more smoothly. Remember, it's your job as a soldier to keep your leadership honest.

It's an annual evaluation, so your first NCOER would be due 1 August 2016. You could receive change of rater as well when you get new leadership or change positions.

NCOERs are annual, so one year after your promotion. After your promotion that should have been stated in a counciling statement. An NCOER should also be preformeded when there is a change of rater.

Annual ncoer. Quarterly counseling. Since you are in the reserves, your probably
Never get a counseling but somehow magically they will be with your ncoer.

Congratulations on your promotion. NCOERs are annual evaluation so you should get your first NCOER July 31, 2016. What you need to keep on track is you should receive your first "initial" counseling as an NCO 90 days after your promotion orders. Then expect to receive another counseling every 90 days afterwards and that should serve your quarterly counseling.

Thank you MSG Gamolo. I have not received anything. I have been asking questions and even got an example of an initial counseling statement and NCOER from a SNCO just to have an example but my supervisor is at a lost. I am not sure how else to get this across to him.

An initial counseling is pretty much what your first line leader expect from you. If you are holding a team leader position, then your squad leader should break down what your responsibilities are, how many Soldiers you are in charge of, how to function as a team to support squad missions, morale and welfare and an overall re-enforcement of the Army values.... Part of the initial counseling is discussing who your rating schemes are. If he has not sat down with you and discussed this, then take the time and ask them these questions. The follow up counselings (quarterlies) are feedbacks as far as were you are in meeting those expectations.
Im glad you are asking and researching this information now while at an early stage of your NCO career. I hope the answers I gave you help you out a bit. Good luck.

Ahhh I see. Well, these are certainly things that I wasn't aware of so I will be sure to ask these questions! They all have been very helpful and I really do appreciate this MSG.

Anytime... Now, once you have all your information you need, take the initiative and perform an initial counseling on all the Soldiers assigned to you. You can take some lines from the example counseling they provided you. Good luck.

Your NCOER is due 1 year from the effective date of your orders, not from the day you got pinned. Your NCOER would run from 1 Aug- 31 Jul if they pinned you on the day of your orders. My question to you though would be, did you get a initial counseling? By this time now you should have also received two quarterly counseling. Just from your questions I would be concerned as a outsider looking in that your unit has a complete failure of senior NCO leadership and Company Commander leadership. This should never have been a question that you needed to ask as your rater should have explained this in your first initial counseling. Congrats on your promotion, as you move up in the ranks, learn from the failures of your leaders and never pass those failures on to the soldiers that you supervise.

Thank you Chief. I have honestly been asking this question since I got to my new unit. I was promoted out of my unit. I have gone to my PSG and he came from AD so I figured that he would be good help. His answer was a blur. I have not received an initial counseling. When I first arrived I inquired about this and I have been every since and I still have yet to receive one. I am leaving soon to report to recruiting school and then AGR as a recruiter. I know that I will need an NCOER when I leave but I can't even get an initial counseling statement! I am at a lost as to what to do at this point and it is frustrating but I want to make sure that I am going about this all the right way.

SGT Lewis, I want to commend you on your actions as a fairly new NCO. You have asked questions and haven't found the answers that not only you desire but deserve and you have gone elsewhere to get it. It is a true mark of a NCO, one that will become a great leader one day. I can tell you the situation that will arise and your options. This has brought great stress on you but you will make it through this as a stronger NCO.
Here is your situation, as you leave your unit they will be required to give you a change of rater NCOER The more you ask about getting it the more feathers you will ruffle and they may try to give you a bad NCOER. Thankfully the Army in its wisdom realized that there are F'd up units with even worse leadership which you have the luck of being in one. The thing about not getting counseled is, you will get a NCOER and it can't be negative in any area since you have never been counseled and if it is at that time SGT Lewis will pick up the phone and call the IG, bad part about it is you can only get an average rating and being a new NCO you would like to have positive remarks on it. You may leave the unit without a NCOER just from the sounds of how ate up they are.
So now that you have left your current unit, lets say without a NCOER, you make it through recruiting school which I have no doubt you will and arrive at your new duty station as a recruiter. You will receive a initial counseling AGAIN, and your new command will be after your current for your NCOER from your current unit. Your new NCOER will start the effective date of your orders to report.
