No. GI benefits are a VA entitlement and are in no way dependent on your branch of service.

If you don't pay it back right away they will send you to collections you can set up payment plans but once you file for your taxes or get back to active duty status they can and will garnish the money. It happened to me with my compensation. I was making payments when I returned to active duty and two months they garnished my pay.

So owing that back didn't hinder you from going back active? This is the only thing I'm worried about holding me back.

No absolutely not.
GI Bill is a VA program, not an Army or Navy program, so it doesn't matter what service you're in. Also, your BAH earned is what you were entitled to at the time.

FN Desiree Gray I don't know how it will affect your credit, but owing money to the VA is no different than owing back taxes to the IRS.

FN Desiree Gray I don't know, I imagine so. I'm just telling you the Army and the VA aren't linked. Owing one doesn't mean you owe the other.
