I never knew that I wasn't an NCO. It made me sad to learn the truth about this; however, I am a leader in civilian life. Also, I was a Squad Leader as an SPC 4.
I am not sad about this anymore.

I loved being a Specialist. Was high enough to not get messed with too much but low enough to not have a lot of responsibility. It was a sad day when I traded my sham shield for Corporal stripes.

Ha! I did CPL twice... Worst rank ever. NCO when it's convenient, E4 and below when it's not...

SFC Michael Hasbun - I guess I was privileged with wearing corporal stripes which actually gave me my first squad leading position because of shortage of NCO during the Desert Storm era when they were letting NCO's retire early, so I earned those stripes in the desert.

Help me understand the question, are you saying if I was a specialist would I feel better as a corporal?
