I'm met with my recruiter and picked out my MOS last Friday. It wasn't the job I wanted but my recruiter told me that when I go to MEPS I can change my MOS. Today he formed me that since I'm going into the reserves, I will not be able change my MOS because I'm joining the reserves. Can I just go to MEPS and say I don't want the job, go back to my recruiter and search for another job, THEN, go back to MEPS, to sign for that job?? Hope that makes sense. Let me know what ya'll think.

Screw that recruiter!

Make an appointment with an Army Recruiter and get Airborne in your contract! THAT MEANS - IN WRITING!!

That ought to be the way to go CSM Charles Hayden Passed 7/29/2025! I steered so many prospects from Reserve component interest into Regular Army. So often that I was expecting someone from Reserve Command to pay me a visit and inquire about my unsolicited interruptions!!!

Until you sign the contract and take the oath, you don't even have to SHOW UP at MEPS if you change your mind about enlisting. So you can certainly change your MOS. I'd find another recruiter, or go back and tell that guy you're changing your mind, and if he doesn't help you, you'll find one that will. Since this will effect his quota, I can pretty much guarantee a magical turnaround.

My recruiter messed up back when I went to MEPS to enlist so I had to change my MOS to a different one (complicated story). So therefore, yes you can change your MOS.

As an Army Reservist, can I change my MOS at MEPS?

Until you sign on the line and Altair your oath of enlistment, YOU have control of your future. Don’t let them steer you wrong. If MEPS won’t help you change it (which they should), then your plan is doable. “This is the only job we have available for you” will really quickly turn into “let’s see what we can do” if you make it clear you’re not enlisting into an MOS you don’t want.

Did or didn’t you sing a DD Form 4 and took the Oath of Enlistment? If so you are committed. If not you can request a new one; based on availability and geografical area. Remember, the MOS you want might be in a unit 500 mile away from where you live therefore it won’t be offered.

You've gotten as far in the process as you have because you and your recruiters had an understanding about what job you wanted to do. Once you're in the pipeline, it means the Army has a slot reserved for you in training, and a billet for you at your reserve unit. The Army has to plan that. That doesn't mean you can't change it, but it's not as simple as just showing up at MEPS and saying you want a different job.

If I were you, I wouldn't go to MEPS at all until you got the job situation straightened out with your recruiter. I will say that as a former reservist, your job depends in large part on what unit you will go to. If you want a different job, it has to be one supported by your eventual unit. If it's not, you might have to investigate other units, and possibly other services.

Why are you asking the same basic question that you asked and was answered 3 days ago?

PV2 (Join to see) they just might not have that job opening. It's the Reserves so they are run by what slots are open. Nothing is in writing till you sign your DD4.

PV2 (Join to see) I would also caution you that it's the Reserves, you'll spend about a month of your year there. People don't join the USAR for a job, they join for the outstanding benefits. Your couple months of training and one month a year of experience aren't going to qualify you to work as a helicopter mechanic on the civilian sector any time soon.
If the job is important to you, go active duty. If the benefits are important to you, don't spend the next year waiting for your favorite job to open, it's just a side hustle.

I submitted my college credits and that was bumped me up to tier 1 which is equivalent to high school graduate. I go to MEPS this Tuesday to enlist for active duty. Greatest thing is I got the job I want which is 15T.

I have 32 college credits. I did some research and found out that GED applicants; which I am, that have at least 15 college credits are placed with the high school graduates. GED applicants AFQT score must 50 or higher, I scored a 32. My line scores are pretty good. My lowest was CL-94. So, if that is correct, I wouldn't have to enlist as a reservist I could go active duty. Is my information correct or am I readying it wrong??
