Aside from obvious assets, what do you pack in your assault pack for the range?

wet weather gear, MRE, change of underwear and socks... Make sure your canteens have water.

I pack a three day supply. That is what the assault pack is for; not hoagie bait or fatty cakes.

Every soldier will eventually give in to the beef jerky & Powerade or monster. It just seems to go with the situation. Extra IFAC, gloves, ear pro, eye pro elbow pads if needed for that extra 2 inches of the ground

Some Twizzlers, an extra t-shirt, socks and underwear (brown or OD green), sunblock, and a paperback book.
I've had range days where it rained, and the greatest feeling was a new pair of dry socks and a dry t-shirt.
I've also had range days where I needed extra cleaning materials because Soldiers forgot to bring them, and torn up socks and t-shirts make excellent backups for cleaning or laying out parts as you clean them.
I had a range day where a female Soldier tore the crotch of her ACUs and was wearing a frigging thong, and wound up wearing my extra pair of boxers for the rest of the day to qualify.
I've had MANY range days when Soldiers would come back from the range cooked like lobsters on their faces and hands because they didn't wear sunblock and once the took off their eyepro and kevlar looked like freaking reverse raccoons.
And I've had range days where it seems like every swinging Johnson is taking nineteen iterations to qualify and there's nothing to do but sit and wait, so I bring a book. Not my normal Kindle, because that shit can get fouled up or broken in the field (as I learned the hard way when a SPC stepped on mine accidentally once), so a paperback is the way to go.
And the Twizzlers, they are my reward for not breaking anyone's neck throughout the day.

Jerky, sunflower seeds (lots of bags) bug spray and sunscreen, chewing tobacco. Back up battery for the cell phone, because you know the equipment on the range hardly works, and as a Sqd Ldr, everyone is calling you from the rear for qualification updates. But the most packed item would have to be Motrin.
