Recently my unit had an Operations SGM hold the position for less than 8 weeks. He got a CSM position on the other side of post, and received a MSM for a PCS award. An MSM for less than 2 months in the unit....

We have SSG's and SFC's that have served in the Regiment for 6+ years, and get ARCOM's as PCS/ETS Awards. Multiple deployments, Top Guns, etc...the best of our best.

Why is it that awards are associated with rank these days? A LT/PSG can deploy, never leave the wire, and get a Bronze Star. The private who dismounts every single day and goes on over 200 missions gets an AAM half of the time...

This "boys club" stuff is out of control. In my unit, schools and awards are almost exclusively for Officers. We even had an XO go to Pathfinder school a month before he PCS'd. It was literally described as a "going away gift" for him.

I have put in five Pathfinder/ARC packets over 18 months and never got a seat...

Should a commander be able to say that they will only give a Bronze Star Medal to SSGs and above? Is this how awards are determined IAW AR 600-8-22? What if a SGT or below has met the criteria to earn a more prestigious award? Why does BDE or higher say that they are only alloted a certain number of awards for deployment or PCS or for an impact award? If your repsonse is "Tradition" or "That's the way it always has been," does that make it right?
