So as of yesterday I had became my units Barracks Managing NCO, and as everything in the Army, paperwork was a mess, and the prior NCO did not really care of things in the barracks. I am always up for a Challenge, but I have the slightest clue on how the Barracks Management works and having a a hard time finding documents on how to get things done.

I was thinking of running it how a Apartment would but I am sure it is a diffrent beast, anyone here had any knowledge on running barracks or having to do Barracks Inspections and talking to the NCOIC of the barracks, or general tips to get contact with the contractors, places to get things, ect

My best advice on this is so simple many people do not think of it. See who the best person at that job is in adjacent units, who makes the highest marks in inspections and seek out their guidance.

That was my next step tomorrow, I have a meeting this week with Staff Duty of the Barracks so hopefully I get more answers, and will be asking questions through this thread

SPC(P) (Join to see) - Top Shelf! Never be afraid to seek assistance if your overall goal is to do the best job you can do, seeking the guidance of the best person at the job is the best way to go.

Wow, times have changed! I knew open bays were a thing of the past. I'm unfamiliar with the job title Barracks Managing NCO. Nov '74-Dec '75 at Camp Casey, Korea was the last time I lived in a barracks.

Haha they still have those during basic SSG, and at some Forts but times certainly have change, we now live and semi smaller apartments where 2 soliders share a kitchen and bathroom area and our own personal rooms. That said, barracks are random when it comes to quality, 82nd barracks are huge with elevators and balconies weight rooms ect, while a support side might barely have a mail room with leaks and bad plumbing. I believe the Barracks NCO was made in order to be the middle ground between the contractors and First Sargeant, so the First SGT has less to worry about

You will need access to electronic Military Housing or eMH. Talk with your 1SG about finding who the trainer is for this program. eMH will be how you track who is in what rooms and check people in and out. You will still need paperwork though, such as the pre move in inspection, 2062 for furniture, the move out inspection, and the barracks clearance memo.

SPC(P) (Join to see) BOSS is a seperate program, hopefully your 1SG tags someone else with BOSS because barracks will be tome consuming. As far as the Dayroom goes you will have to figure out property accountability issues like pool balls signed out from CQ. If you want a big screen you'll need to talk with someone about funding and figure out property accountability. If it's a bn dayroom usually the bn csm will want to be involved.

If you have not already, start here with the manual.
https://www.housing.army.mil/Documents/FSBP2020.pdf

After that, start with the First Sergeant and have a meeting with him as this is his program, you are just the chosen one to administer it for it for him. Unless he or she is an utter noob they will have had some experience in this and have an idea how they want it run. Plus this gets their input and avoids you making early mistakes that puts you on the wrong side of your Top. And they can better direct you on where to go and how to go next.

SPC(P) (Join to see) - Yep, it's a thing. Back in the day we used to joke that the Army had written regs on how to take a piss and how many times you could tap.

But yeah, it's a thing. Kind of surprised your unit did not have a manual but then who knows these days. Good luck.

SSG Brian G. I honestly believe that my command did not know of any of this, As I said before the NCO before me gave me a quick walk through the keys the current work orders and said "You got it..."

But I showed my 1SG the FSBP and she said that she never knew it was a thing either but will read through it so we can try and get things done
