If you're trying to be competitive and get in a good workout, go for the earliest heat possible (also cooler in the mornings). The obstacles get backed up pretty quickly by those seeking a participant ribbon. The obstacles are also more difficult to climb later in the day due to all the mud coating the ropes and such. Wear long sleeves (especially pants, sleeves over the elbows) so you don't get cut-up. We often duct tape the top of our shoes so we don't get mud in them during the race. Bring lots of water, food, etc after the race. They usually offer stuff at the race or give you a free beer, but those don't help with hydration. Bring a towel to dry off (they usually have water hoses to get the mud off), change of clothes, ect. Lastly, wear sunscreen and have fun!

I think 1LT (Join to see) and SGT Kristin Wiley are hardcore into such suck-fests. @TSgt Hunter Logan just made a thread about similar events.

They have the Spartan Race Trifecta in Hawaii. Too bad I'm leaving before this year's event.

Do a GoRuck Challenge. It'll legit whoop your ass and show you how far teamwork can get you. Better and different from everything else out there.
