SPC (Join to see) I like GEN Odierno and I like the fact that he is speaking out. He made it to that job for reason. All of us "Arm Chair quarterbacks" can second-guess what he is saying, but he had access to the intelligence and the facts. He is assessing the situation and letting the Commander in Chief know as he is going out the door he doesn't agree with the direction the military is going in with the current level of threats. Remember, when the USSR was at the top of their game and looking down the barrel of the Fulda Gap Reagan built are defense posture up to over (21) Divisions (I believe that is correct - historians correct me if I'm wrong), but I'm pretty close to the number - it was a formable force to deter USSR further aggression and keep everyone in checkmate. Now we are decreasing our military when the threats are all around us whether we want to admit it or not. I like the fact that he took the high road, finished his career and is now standing up and sending a message to this country, Congress and the current leadership as well as the future leadership that will inherit the 450K Army. Good for him!

He is not resigning but retiring so the headline is misleading to begin with. It makes it sound like he is being forced out due to disagreeing with the President. However, I will say that it is interesting that he is still in uniform when he is making these comments. Too many people get out and write a book after the fact when they no longer have any influence and I wonder why they did not have the moral courage to make a stand when they could. This raises an issue that I have thought about quite a bit. When you disagree with policy so strongly, should you resign to make a statement or stay in to either try to change the policy or just ride with the waves?

The whole military command structure should have told this POS where to get off years ago. Mutiny, yes. Insubordination, you bet. Who cares? One of Obama's singular agendas has been to embolden the Arabs in whatever form they come, and to demoralize and destabilize our military. Am I the only one who has seen this? No. General Odierno, General McChrystal, and many others have had it up to their Dress Blues bow tie with this sanctimonious fraud of a president. So have I.

CPT Toby Forbes - How much change have you seen effected? How many strategic military recommendations have been proffered to this POTUS and have been totally ignored??? A lot of good working on the inside has accomplished little with this POTUS.

CPT Toby Forbes - No, I have not been a fly on the wall, as they say. But I am not blind, nor am I ignorant. I pay attention. I read. I listen. I network. And I have observed a decided lack of cooperation and a decided amount of antagonism between this White House and the JCS, et al. Anyone one who is truly interested in this aspect of our government could see it. At times the contention has been so thick you could cut it with a knife. If someone spends years butting his head against a brick wall and nothing happens, if you stick around just to keep beating your head against that same wall...for principle's sake or the hope that the wall will give...all you're going to get is more bloody headaches.
BTW, captains are infinitely more replaceable than generals. ROFLMAO.

CPT Toby Forbes - True, very true. But I retired in 2002, I survived all the cuts and replacements for 33 years. You're still in. Night and day difference.
