I was assigned Active duty, but have been thinking about transferring back to the National Guard. Is this possible?

I haven't seen or heard of this happening previously, when I was at BOLC we had several CAD packet submissions in my class (Call to Active Duty) which is the reverse of what you're trying.

That being said, read through AR 350-100 (Officer Active Duty Service Obligations) which will tell you what your existing service obligation is based on commissioning source. Given that you haven't yet completed your Initial Entry Training (in your case, BOLC) there's potential that you could have your ADSO (Active Duty Service Obligation) waived, and would incur a different service obligation with the ARNG.

Second, look through AR 614-120 (Inter-Service Transfer of Army Commissioned Officers on the Active Duty List)... which may not even apply in this case because This regulation applies to commissioned officers on the active duty list requesting Inter-Service transfer from the Army to another Uniformed Service and those requesting Inter-Service transfer to the army from another Uniformed Service.

Third, if you meet the criteria outlined in those regulations, seek out (through your School-house Chain of Command) the S1 to inquire about the process and if it's possible based on your branch and needs of the Army.

As the saying goes... Where there's a will, there's a waiver!

Good luck!
