The answer is: it depends. Our BN has many SMP Cadets that WILL go to NTC with us and we schedule our ECTs at NYC to coincide with summer breaks. You are not being deployed. Get with uour commander and XO, they should be able to assist you.

Cadets can attend annual training as long as it doesn't interfere with their school and ROTC obligations. So, for example, if you had an early ROTC Advance Camp cycle and your Guard unit had a late summer NTC rotation that ended before school started in the fall, you could go to NTC with your unit. But don't sweat it if you don't get to go this time; you will have plenty of opportunities to attend after you get commissioned. LOL!

MAJ,

Can you provide details, or some sort of guidance on this? My unit has a upcoming NTC rotation and are extremely short handed on Officers, but they do not think Cadets can go.

I've attended a few in the past as enlisted, mostly this would just be for the exp and to assist the unit.

I am not sure if NTC or JRTC have special rules for cadets (I doubt it), but you can asked to be excused from AT though you are not prohibited from attending AT. You will be excused from AT if you request to be excused. Your AT cannot be used as a substitute for required ROTC training.

AR 601-210 Para 19-4.i.(16) Pg 104

"Annual training. CDTs will be excused on their request from AT during the year they are required to attend ROTC LDAC. They will not be required to attend both unless they choose to do so, but they must attend LDAC. However, should the CDT be commissioned, or disenrolled from ROTC, and remain assigned to a TPU, the AT requirement must be adhered to. The awarding of credit for AT by virtue of any form of ROTC training is not authorized."

Short answer: no. SMP cadets hold 09R as their primary MOS, and as trainees, are nondeployable personnel. There is no battle roster position for them to hold on the CTC 'deployment.'

That said, your unit can send you to other schools or training opportunities. Good luck!
