I’m here at AIT and I have this drill sergeant that absolutely hates everything me and another person in our platoon does the first 2 weeks we did get off on the wrong hand but I just wasn’t use to the freedom coming fresh out of basic I told her that and I’ve been staying under the radar for a while but she just looks for any and everything to chow us out about or give us a counseling so today we had a random room expectation and our rooms got trashed me and the guy she hates also so what she did was thrower everything out our drawers and brought the females to our room and told them that this is how we live and we’re dirty so she took our phones and a couple more guys I gave her a phone but she said I had more than one phone so she made me open my locker and searched through my bags in my locked locker with no permission and found a old phone I was wrong for not turning it in but everyone is telling me to go talk to my 1Sgt because it wasn’t right how I was the only one that got searched and she was never given permission to search any of my personal belongings she just decided to and made me open my locker should I talk to my first sergeant about this? Or is this just something I should just deal with 8 more weeks because I think she is trying to get me put out and I can’t take it

Did anybody tell you that you are the property of the United States Government yet and you don't have the same rights as a slimy civilian, buttercup? With that attitude, you are in for a full enlistment as an E-1 Private No Class

Discipline equals freedom

Discipline yourself to follow the rules, all of the rules, all of the time. You’ll be surprised when you are afforded the freedom given to you as a trusted member of your unit.

Be undisciplined and watch the restrictions come rolling in. Extra duty. Loss of privileges.

In this case, the DS was acting to maintain discipline and enforce the unit policy. This was not a criminal investigation. The army owns the barracks and the lockers the commander and his designees have the right to inspect everything in the barracks to maintain safety and discipline. You were caught concealing contraband. The DS seemed to know that you were concealing another phone, and you were. You were violating the policy and got caught. I'd suggest that you get your act together and then the DS would get off your case and then you can maybe graduate from AIT.

Privacy, especially during entry level training is pretty much a mute point in the military. The Drill Sgt has every right to ask you to empty your locker and put things back a certain way. So, searching though it is a less bothersome way to do that. One thing you did not say, is what do you believe the Sgt was looking for? You will probably find that the !st Sgt is not going to be to receptive to your complaint. My advice is suck it up and move on. The training is 8 weeks long. After that you will be rid of your Drill Sgt.

You are "GI," Government issue; you signed the dotted line and basically belong to the government. Therefore you're personal rights are surrendered to the authority assigned by the Commander in Chief AKA, the President. He has seen it to put in his charge the, "Drill Sergeant" to train you to become a "Soldier," to teach you courage, team work, dignity, and respect. Theses are the qualities expected of America's finest who serve our country, you are no longer Jodi on the block, you are an American Soldier, act like it. Generation Snowflake has no place in the Military, that shit will do b=nothing but get you and your buddies killed deader than hell real quick, because your enemy does not give two shits about you and your cell phone or you freedom's, that is why you live in America and they don't. My advice, suck it up, show your Drill the respect they earned, and be an adult professional soldier.

DIs intimidate and from what I saw when I was in it's part of their job; I would guess to teach that being like is necessary perform as a unit. I don't think what's happening with you is anything out of the norm and would suggest you just do everything to comply that is demanded of you. Personally I see this as a trivial complaint and to take it above the DI's head would just be looking for trouble.
