I’m here at AIT and I have this drill sergeant that absolutely hates everything me and another person in our platoon does the first 2 weeks we did get off on the wrong hand but I just wasn’t use to the freedom coming fresh out of basic I told her that and I’ve been staying under the radar for a while but she just looks for any and everything to chow us out about or give us a counseling so today we had a random room expectation and our rooms got trashed me and the guy she hates also so what she did was thrower everything out our drawers and brought the females to our room and told them that this is how we live and we’re dirty so she took our phones and a couple more guys I gave her a phone but she said I had more than one phone so she made me open my locker and searched through my bags in my locked locker with no permission and found a old phone I was wrong for not turning it in but everyone is telling me to go talk to my 1Sgt because it wasn’t right how I was the only one that got searched and she was never given permission to search any of my personal belongings she just decided to and made me open my locker should I talk to my first sergeant about this? Or is this just something I should just deal with 8 more weeks because I think she is trying to get me put out and I can’t take it

*Cough* Umm.. first? Do not sit and listen to your AIT barracks lawyer buddies. They will get you in a LOT of trouble, quick. Second? You are NOT a civilian. That whole right to privacy and no searches thing without permission is a myth. You are in HER barracks. Which means that she or any other drill, any other NCO in the COC can search your stuff at will with or without your permission. She is doing her job, cranking the pressure on you and this other troop. Take it, keep your nose straight, learn your jobs and graduate. Keep it up and learn to be publicly humiliated and dogged for your time in AIT and the military.

Drill Sergeants are highly trained NCOs. While you stay in government housing during your training, you are suspect to any and all inspections.
Yes the DS can inspect, and use your room as an example for a team building excersise.
Advice: get off the DS radar now or get out...if you feel discriminated, use your CoC. Good luck you Soldier!

If you feel this DS is truly has it out for you the first question is “why”. If you cannot honestly answer that question then yes you should go to you 1Sgt and report the DS. We had DI’s back when, and one hated our unit because we always kicked his units ass at everything. So he was always trying to burn us, fortunately my 1Sgt stopped by one night during one incident and saw what was going on. The DI got his ass ripped bad.

WOW! That is incredible! You have the longest run on sentence I have ever read, or at least tried to read. Congratulations! My advise to you is this. Grow up or get out. You have guidelines you are expected to live by. They are very easy guidelines. Just do what you are told to do. It is that simple. Also, why are you complaining? You have access to the internet during AIT for crying out loud! Talk about pampered!

you brought this on yourself
you lied and deceived and got caught.. you own this mess.... whether you like her or not your drill sgt is there for a reason.. you need to learn a little discipline... i'm sure your 1SG will help you out with this .. everything is searchable without your permission in a training environment.. get off the internet ... comments live on here forever

I say suck it up for 8 weeks. Be a model soldier, get through it and move on. I think the DS was right in this situation, but whether she is right or wrong, fighting back on this will not work out well for you.

Coming from an MP it seems like there was some type of probable cause. However if you feel like you were being picked on then the best thing to do is to take it up the chain and make sure you document who you talked to, date, time and what was said. If you feel it necessary, continue to take it up the chain of command but whatever you do, make sure you record everything. The more details the better it will be for you should there be any question regarding your interaction with the chain of command. I taught this to my soldiers as a tactic I used when I had problems with so-called leadership.

That was my question. You're not supposed to single out one person for an inspection. I don't think saying a little bird told me counts. Even if you suspect someone has contraband, you have to inspect everyone. Saying that I don't know that particular situation.

Ya know, you DO put yourself on Thin Ice, when your story included, "...I was wrong for not turning it in but.....". This is a good learning experience to decide that, if you think that you MIGHT get into a conflict with a Superior, make sure that you have your own affairs in order. It gives you a Much better chance of winning.

Old thread, I know... but here’s my 2 cents. I think a Soldier that feels they are being unfairly targeted (it happens) or at least over zealously targeted (also happens) should go to the 1SG! And here’s why. They should explain that they messed up, and have given DS (whomever) an excuse to target them... but they have changed their evil ways. Request that the 1SG do a search (or another DS) and lay everything out! Remove anything not allowed or even boarder line to be bagged up and retrieved on graduation. Also request that they get a weekly check done by a DS once a week. Nothing shows the desire to do what’s right more than admitting you were wrong and offering a solution to prove it. Oh, and actually stop Having contraband!
