I’m here at AIT and I have this drill sergeant that absolutely hates everything me and another person in our platoon does the first 2 weeks we did get off on the wrong hand but I just wasn’t use to the freedom coming fresh out of basic I told her that and I’ve been staying under the radar for a while but she just looks for any and everything to chow us out about or give us a counseling so today we had a random room expectation and our rooms got trashed me and the guy she hates also so what she did was thrower everything out our drawers and brought the females to our room and told them that this is how we live and we’re dirty so she took our phones and a couple more guys I gave her a phone but she said I had more than one phone so she made me open my locker and searched through my bags in my locked locker with no permission and found a old phone I was wrong for not turning it in but everyone is telling me to go talk to my 1Sgt because it wasn’t right how I was the only one that got searched and she was never given permission to search any of my personal belongings she just decided to and made me open my locker should I talk to my first sergeant about this? Or is this just something I should just deal with 8 more weeks because I think she is trying to get me put out and I can’t take it

When you enter any military installation you automatically allow for search and seizure of both body and belongings. This warning is posted by all entrance gates. As to your DS ‘hating’ you, I was a USAF training instructor(same as DS) for basic training enlisted. I did not have time to hate any of my more than 600 trainees, over my three year tour of duty. What you do is look for obvious sign(s) of not adjusting to military life. That’s the purpose of basic training, to teach you how to accept and follow orders. The second is to get you acclimated to military life and the way that that life is different from civilian life. You volunteered, took an oath.

BLUF: To answer your question... Yes. Cadre (not just YOUR Drill, ANY Cadre) can search your room, wall locker, foot locker, luggage, and your person at any time. Your command can request a dog sweep by the MPs at anytime. They don’t need probable cause. They absolutely don’t need your consent. That’s just how it is. He who does nothing wrong has nothing to fear. You’re not back on the block dealing with civilian law enforcement.
A “health and welfare inspection” can happen at anytime.
FYSA: once you get to your assignment, the same rules will apply as long as you live in the barracks.

When I was in, even if you lived off post command could search your quarters at anytime.

If you're doing something wrong correct yourself and take time to speak with this Drill Sergeant. You're going through a phase of life that this Drill Sergeant is hard enough to make sure you keep your head up and change the way you are going.. Don't go over the chain of command keep it true to your self. Hope it all works out. DRILL SARGENT ROMAN

Sorry but you're still in training so yes they have a right to toss your stuff and go through it. If they lay a hand on you then that's wrong but you have no privacy when you are there. You should have been use to it from the beginning of training and carry that through the rest of OSUT. Just because you passed the BCT part does not mean you get a free pass in AIT.

Your are missing a HUGE aspect of your training and a reason for your DS being so meticulous. To survive in combat requires you to always be meticulous in your attention to detail. Obviously you failed that in AIT by having anything otherwise banned. Pay closer attention to detail and appreciate the fact that your DI is trying to toughen you up to increase your survivability -- as well as the chances of your comrades in arms surviving -- and a successful completion of your mission. If anything, rather than criticizing your DS or sniveling to the 1SGT, go thank the DS for caring so much. Trying to justify your brain-farts when you are in contact with enemy combatants just might get you killed. Accept it and try harder. Focus on the mission, and at this point your mission is to be the best soldier you can be, not to see how you can get away with petty BS. Don't make me go read your name on some memorial wall someplace because you were more interested in what you could get away with than being the best soldier you can be, according to your gifts.

The fact you still had an “old phone”, just confirmed that the DS had their shit together. Somehow the DS knew you were not giving up all the phones when told to do so. Don’t let the door hit you on your early out ass!

I don't know about the Army AIT but in the Marine Corps Schoolhouses you're not allowed to search a Marine's locked gear without authorization from higher. Thay being said, although she is in the wrong it sounds like you should really be trying to get your stuff together and change her perception of you. Used to freedom of AIT or not, you're an adult and are expected to act as such.
