Call housing.
This stuff changes. The most recent base I was at had one thing on their website, but was different when I applied, which was -also- different from what others there before said.
Call. Them. Yourself. Get a name for who you talked to.

I can tell you when I was SSG (P) the housing put me in the Senior NCO housing area. That was awhile ago so I would just call the housing office. I am sure the put SSG with SGT now in certain housing areas.

Well that’s good news SFC Ashman, it seems housing on the base is broken down E1-E5 then E6-E7

Contact your sponsor and ask if an Exception to policy can be done. I was CPL (P) and ordered to move off base by CSM 3rd Cav did Exception to policy for all CPL (P) and above at the time.

Last that I knew, SSGs who were single did not receive on post housing. They received BAH at a single E6 rate. That being said, depending on the need to vacate rooms in the billets, your chain of command can process an Exception to Policy and allow you to begging receiving your BAH. I lived in billets for approx. 3 months when I was a new PFC, married, divorced almost a year later, and the command signed off on an Exception to Policy for me, a single PFC, to keep my BAH and remain off post. It really just depends on your chain of command.

Well I’m married with a dependent so this question is more geared towards whether or not I can apply for E6 housing which is a lot nicer than E5.

WO1 (Join to see) - in that case, you might be able to try. Might just be an issue of availability. If they have the room then perhaps. If they won't just because of your grade, look into the Exception to Policy memo.

Live off post, Clarksville is booming and there are plenty of nice places to live that are a shirt drive to post. If you want to know specifically where, let me know.

You will want the Woodlawn area. It is within 10-15 minutes of Saber. Woodlawn is out of the city limits, nice country living or there are a couple of subdivisions such as Liberty Park. That is what I would suggest, also it is in the back side of post so you don't have to deal with the majority of traffic.

I’m also a SGT(P) but PCSing to Bragg, they told me no I will be in the barracks.
I call a few other numbers at finance to get BAH authorization and they to told me get married or have a baby then come back to talk to them. Then hung up.... so basically you’ll need to get promoted first if it is the same there

It never hurts to ask at housing when you check in. It will depend a lot on availability and your attitude. I was a young Major when I checked into Pendleton years ago. Housing issued me a field grade duplex and I moved in. A couple of months later, the Colonel across the street transferred and his single quarters overlooking the Oceanside Harbor was vacant. On my wife's insistence I went to housing and POLITELY asked if I could have the house. The civilian who processed housing assignments pointed out it was O-6 housing and I was an O-4, so why should she do it. I just told her that I liked the single home better, and, unless they had an inbound O-6, I'd be happier there, and they could assign my O-4 duplex to an O-3 or even an O-2 and make them very happy also. She looked at me, said there were no inbound O-6s and she would assign me the home I wanted, but would not pay movers to move me. I happily moved everything myself and a Captain moved into my duplex shortly thereafter. Key was recognizing that she was the authority in that situation and might have to justify her decision to her boss. Guiding the conversation gently to where the lady saw advantages for everyone and not treating her like someone I could order around, but working cooperatively with her to justify the departure from the routine. If the person you talk with says that the quarters you would like are available, but they aren't able to do it, ask if you can speak with the person who can authorize it. Just don't try to throw your rank around, work with them.

Depends on the installation and your unit. Barracks have to be above 95% before anyone will authorize soldiers to live off post or authorize BAH for anyone that is E5 below regardless of promo status.
