In a generic term, they absolutely could NOT ban all controlled substances. People generally focus on narcotics as the only controlled meds but scheduled meds include marinol for appetite, amphetamines, and a variety of other medications outside of narcotics. If someone made this kind of statement they clearly are providing poor education to their patients, much like the poor education that likely lead to the opioid crisis.

The Manila Outpatient Clinic banned my medications...for me and all vets serviced by at the same facility. One man. One decision. Hundreds, of lives, now at risk.

SGT Glen Adkins - Wait, who are you talking about.. You said " Manila Outpatient Clinic's director's " and above "One man. One decision. Hundreds, of lives, now at risk."
The Director is a woman, Tracey A. Betts, so sounds like there is some misunderstanding about who told you what, or rather what your provider told you.

The Assistant Director of the VA Manila Regional Benefit Office and Outpatient Clinic is Kevin J. McAllister, is that your "one man" referenced above?

The Clinic Manager is Daniel P. Gutkoskiis, is that your "one man" referenced above?

I know personally that the VA does not authorized sone medications that are issued but outside sources the medications I am familiar with are those that were blessed for one reason and can be used for others without FDA eval.

I recommend the same as my SGM counterpart contact the COC, or even ask your VA physician and or the pharmacy supervisor.

Having t said this mouthful there must be a medication they can provide that is clearly identified for your condition. They will never send you away untreated. Lastly, narcotics or controlled substances are tightly controlled for good reason. If there is ever reason to believe someone if abusing the medication, this too will end issue.

Good luck.

SGT Glen Adkins - I am uncertain I would suggest someone move back to the US as they did but I will be honest, getting old or needing lots of care in a foreign county is not a good idea. The US does not have maximum resources and the host country does not give a shit about US vets. I say this from being a US healthcare provider abroad and seen how people are treated. If the VA in Manila is not taking care of you and you want to stay, go on the economy. My wife is from Manila and money talks there.

SGT Glen Adkins - "SGT Glen Adkins 10 h
The Manila Outpatient Clinic is denying 3 of my PTSD Rx's. I have been using minimum dosages for years, quite effectively There are no substitute Rx's. They suggest I move back to the U.S. and get the prescriptions filled there"

Ahh, see THAT is new information. That statement is much more likely than a clinic manager deciding he was going to wholesale prohibit certain medications from being proscribed to a patient.

MAJ Byron Oyler - Exactly what I am doing. I cannot afford for me and my family to move to the U.S. I will stay here with my family and die here...probably sooner rather than latter, thanks to the VA.

SGM Erik Marquez - The clinic (whoever) DID decide to prohibit certain medications being subscribed to a patient.

Can, Should, Legally do so are all different questions.
If you were told by a PA, RN, Doc, ect... individually during an appointment you could not have a controlled pain medication prescription due to a "VA medical center ban" Id suggest you contact the VA center director and confirm or deny that status.
Id bet no such universal all-encompassing "ban" is in place. Though there may be a staff directive to reduce, and limit such Rx's with or without intimidation or threats that some or all docs may be accepting as a defacto ban.
Something like "Medical staff with privileges to prescribe narcotics will move patients to non narcotic therapies whenever possible, Medical staff who continue to prescribe narcotics will have all case charts reviewed weekly by the administrator to ensure no irregularities in charting, prescribing, treatment, or administrative requirements have taken place" would put a chilling effect on any Doc prescribing narcotics for any reason.

MSgt (Join to see) - Danial made the decisions and is apparently about to leave. Station Director is Tracey Betts who has move to the U.S. and is retiring. Current person, in charge, appears to be Elizabeth Harris, Asst Clinician Manager. More and more vets (PTSD & mental disorders) are becoming outraged at being told to move back to the U.S. to get their meds.

Thank you for your consideration.I appreciate all input and advice from veterans. I am not the only one the Manila VA is denying. I am trying to defuse a ticking time bomb, here, and help others eliminate suicide as their only option. Vet with PTSD and other mental disorders are will be in deep trouble come September 30.
