Can anyone explain if this guy I know is pretending to be a LTC?

An old friend of mine randomly posted a photo of himself in OCP’s with LTC rank. He told everyone that he just joined the Army Rerserves. I asked him what unit, and he told me it’s the 101st Airborne. He has a BS in nursing. He’s 45 years old. He’s not on ako or on enterprise. My question is, does this story smell fishy?

Check with AMED recruiting regulations. Sounds off kilter. Nursing degree yet assigned with the 101st screaming Eagles??? Naw, you may want to clarify this with your old friend and explain to him that impersonating an officer (especially an LTC), is NOT good!!! Hoorah!!

BLUF: He may not be a faker.
He may be a direct commission. Many professions (i.e. lawyer, nurse, doctor etc..) can come in as O-3,4,5's depending on civilian skills and experience nd the "needs of the service." As for not being on AKO or global directory that means nothing. I know and have served with a lot of people whose names don't show up in GAL, AKO etc. I was listed as an O-2 forever even after being promoted to O-4. I would not be too quick to say he is faking. Some of us have had non-traditional career paths that may, on the face look like they are making it up but in fact is reality.

This can and does happen. My ortho surgeon was a 68 year old O6 named curlee. Had retired and go recruited for a tour. He said he just signed, went to a short course and went to work. My guess though is that NO nurse could do this. Only a doc in high demand.

Could be an IMA assigned to 101st. With professional appointment to LTC. But they usually only do that for physicians. Very unlikely, but very slightly possible.

I think you already know the truth.
However, the WAARNG armor units have recently been assigned to an Active Duty unit and will be wearing the same unit patch. Has this been done with the 101st? I don't know. If he isn't on webmail, there is a reason. He don't exist.

He is NOT who he says he is. 101st Airborne as a reservist? I feel very confident that you're not going to find a brand new 45-year-old O-5 in the current military with only a BSN. Also, most military members would gladly tell you what unit they're in without being so vague.

Health care professionals can enter in advanced rank such as 0-5 if the demand is there. I had a doctor in MNDB was a surgeon centered at 06 col because he volunteered for combat service to iraq.
