An old friend of mine randomly posted a photo of himself in OCP’s with LTC rank. He told everyone that he just joined the Army Rerserves. I asked him what unit, and he told me it’s the 101st Airborne. He has a BS in nursing. He’s 45 years old. He’s not on ako or on enterprise. My question is, does this story smell fishy?

Cut to the chase and ask him to see his military ID card. If he's an "old" friend, he won't mind.

Does the 102st have a reserve component?

101st isn't a reserve unit. If he claims to be on active duty, then 101st would be ok, but it is not a reserve unit in and of itself.

Unless he is some nurse with a certain specialty(like surgery, trauma, er or something like that) it could be plausible the he could be a reservist assigned to the 101st as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee. But the story above is too convenient, so I am throwing the BS Flag.

Hillary Clinton pretended to be a First Lady as well. Let it go, it's not worth it

I'm retired. I don't get all wrapped around the axle over people who claim they performed military service, or attained certain awards and ranks. Stolen valor as it is called is way over reacted to in my opinion. Some folks evidently need to boost their own ego. It does not affect me one way or the other. I will listen to the story, decide for myself if it is true or not, and move along on my way, hoping that they feel better about themselves.

well since the 101 airborne is an active duty unit all its soldiers are on active duty and are in Tennessee. so if he is not there he is just a liar plain and simple

Not possible. a 4 year nurse might get a direct commission as a 1LT but not a LTC, no way. A specialized Doctor could but that is very rare. No AKO huh? Means to me he's not been through BOLC. He might be in a unit that served the 101 while deployed but of course he couldn't have been there since he is not deployable. He's a fake.
