When I was at MP BOLC about 2 years ago I saw an O-3 wearing an ASU shirt that was pink and yellow in the back? Is that a thing to do? I'm not calling them out or anything, I'm just curious because if that's authorized I'd like to do something like that too, and if so how far can you go?

1LT (Join to see) This is usually done with the Mess Dress. When the Mess is closed and the dancing starts, if the senior member removes their jacket, other may remove theirs. What you saw was a Party Shirt. You won't find it in AR670-1. This is an unofficial custom, like branch color suspenders.

This depends on the Senior person's philosophy, but those that have been to Korea usually get party shirts made (as you describe). The reaction ranges from acceptance to unfettered hate. Best to ask first before you commit to a party shirt.

The party shirt has areas not visible with the jacket on decorated in branch colors, Hawaiian prints, cheesy branch logos, etc. sleeves above the cuffs and back usually.

It's a thing that was mainly done when the Blues were not the ASU. It used to be a commercial white shirt. So people would do all kinds of crazy things to their shirts as long as they looked the same with the jacket on. I've seen many with branch colors or unit crests and that kind of thing.
