What’s up everybody I’m pv2 jones and I been in the army a little over 9 months, I love serving until it comes to shaving. I’ve tried everything and my face bumps up terrible man I’m talking about it looks disgusting, plenty of my Drill Sgts in AIT tried teaching me how to shave but it doesn’t work. So I just got to my new unit about 2 and a half months ago and I was still shaving even though it was painful and it looked Terrible, one day an NCO From another unit told me that I NEED to go get a shaving profile because my face just looks terrible and she can tell I was in pain so I promised her I will go get one and have them check it out . After my first appointment the dermatologist gave me a permanent shaving profile and told me that I don’t need to shave atleast until my bumps are clear. So a few weeks go by and I have a little beard (still in regulation 1/4 of an inch) so After pt my squad leader pulls me to The side and starts cursing me out at the top of his lungs saying I need to shave , I told him respectfully I have a shaving profile and it hurts for me to shave he stares at me and replied Under his breath “like every other black person in the army that can’t use razors” I didn’t say anything but it kind of hurt because I don’t want to be a odd ball in my company (I’m in a infantry company btw) so later that day we go into work to clean weapons and he calls me over and apologizes about this morning and I told him it was ok he then said that I need to shave still if I want to make it in the military and I replied and told him I’m not shaving so he can F’ing forget about it he then told me since I cursed him my punishment will be to shave or receive a article for disrespecting a NCO so later I went to my barracks room and shaved during lunch and came back in he then told me that no matter what my profile says I need to listen to him and shave I told my platoon sgt about this whole Situation and he told me I need to listen to my squad leader and shave because the army just gives shaving profiles to anyone. Is this right?

You can request laser treatment remove the bumps. It just doesn’t work for everyone.

That clown can’t order you to violate your profile. He can get an Article 15.

As such that Pvt is not obligated to follow that order either it is incompetent, The Squad leader is incompetent too. Definitely needs to be re-evaluated for his confidence in leadership ability and in my personal opinion, replaced by someone that is competent. I bet that would also reflect on his annual performance evaluation too.
In the end, Pvt moves up the ladder, this clown stays on the bottom rung, Pvt. moves up to Squadleader, Clown ends up in his squad.. Oops, what do we have here but a sudden turn of events...

No, if you have a profile your squad leader can not force you to break it, keep in mind you’re supposed to have a copy of the profile on your person. As for what his said, it is absolutely an EO violation and shows he is a toxic leader, if your platoon sergeant does not want to stand up and correct the squad leader’s behavior I would suggest using the 1SG/CO’s open door policy. You can also go the route of speaking with the unit’s EO representative.

Okay, about you having a permanent no-shave chit, when it comes to the medical department and we give you a chit saying you are not to shave for a duration or every so many days or as in your case a permanent no-shave chit. Mostly everybody listens to medical when we see our patients and give out a chit, whether if is for no shaving or sick in quarter the Senior NCO will usually follow our instructions. There's a but in here, the chit that we give you is a recommendaton only, now if your senior NCO decides to ignore our recommendation and the situation gets worse or you start to get more scars, especially if they are big, and you also have to remember that you shaving you will cut the bumps and get a risk of getting an infection, so what is means is if your Senior NCO disregarded our recommendation and this happens then he will be responsible for disregarding medical recommendation and stand either Officer Hours, Capts Mass, but will be charged with multiple offenses. Now on you, getting a no-shave chit does not mean you don't shave at all, you must maintain your beard according to regulation (meaning trim it). Now usually we give our patient an anti-inflammatory medication and some corticoid cream to apply to the site. After about 2 week we re-examine to see how it's healing. Then we tell the patient on different methods to try to shave, usually we recommend and electric shaver (and I mean a decent one, not a cheapy) and a trimmer, trim your beard as low as you can go, and then wait for your skin to cool down (apply medications), then the next morning use the electric razor lightly (to not irritate your skin) then you would still have the no shave chit and it would say for you to shave with an electric razor every few days to once or twice a week to get your skin use to the electric razor. Now there are some facial slash that you can use before you shave and then another facial splash for after you shave to cool down your skin. This is how the Medical Department works and how it works with the Senior NCO of the patient. I have seen troop court martialed because they disregarded medical advice. So bottom line if he give you a direct order to shave you have to obey your orders, then after you can run it up the chain of command or just wait until it gets so inflamed that if affects your work then run it up the chain of command. You telling him to F**k-off was the wrong thing to do, he could have charged you with disrespecting a Senior NCO and disobeying a lawful order. You got off easy with what he told you. Hopefully this will explain to other members what to do and what not to do. Good Luck All.

I have several troops in my unit and have addressed this particular topic. I also brought the issue of some females violating AR 670-1 regulations and they were treated differently. You have a valid reason. The controversy here is that once a permanent profile is issue a soldier's responsibility is to carry a copy in a water proof small bag(Zip lock) to presented to the questionable Chain of Command and wherever place you go within our military spectrum. Good Luck troop, 11B .

The dermatologist should be prescribing your a shaving liquid before shaving and a pill to kill the infection under the skin low the shavind is not get to the root of the problem.as you shave the chemical will start to toughen then skin were eventually all you will need is to apply the medication this will never no away be get better the you get the human body chemical change every 8 years my bumping did not stop until I turn 40 i. Served in the navy and then army and retired at age 56.i have been In your shoes and fondly got help by a great 1Sgt and great Major who followed the medical AR and the dress appearance AR under the code of conduct.
