With you as an incoming NCO to the counseled person you should review that persons file and as part of your incoming initial counseling to the person, assume ownership of it OR simply close it out with and initialing of it, note that you are assuming responsibility and transfer the action plan to the new counseling you will do. This way everything is fresh and the SM knows there is not break in what is expected of them.

SGT (Join to see) If you inherited a counseling with corrective actions from an NCO that's moved on, I would say yes. As WO1 (Join to see) says, pick them up with an initial. I applaud you for cleaning up the loose ends and counseling.

Then i would initiate the new chain of command with you being his squad leader and then close it out. If it was just a monthly there really isn't a need for it. However for a negative (as long as whatever it was is corrected and better) then close it out. That way for a records review, or for boards, etc you can provide it and it will technically be completed.

SGT (Join to see) - not a problem brother, and like LTC Jason Mackay said very good on you for actually caring about counselings. Too many times, junior Soldiers specifically, aren't counseled which sets them up for failure.
