I passed the board recently and now im being told i may have to be a CPL until i go to BLC or until i get back from ranger school. I dont want to take responsibility as a team leader and still get paid as a SPC. Can i deny a 4187 ?

Fortunate you we told ahead of time in the 80's you were a fireteam leader as a E3 for 6 months before being prompted. I believe almost everyone did the job for months before getting promoted and the pay came later

Josh.. ask yourself if you are truly a leader. If you are, advance your career expeditiously. If you are not, deny the 4187 and separate at ETS.

Am I missing something? Aren't both SPC and CPL E4s? Isn't the pay the same?

I spent my second year as a 2LT as a battalion S4. Sometimes you gotta step up and do the work. You’ll get much more respect if you take the job and do the work than if you refuse the promotion to get out of it. Just my .02

If you do not want leadership responsibility, why did you go before a promotion board? Seems like you you care more about the money than than the responsibility of leadership. Maybe your chain of command should remove you from the promotion list.

Are you stupid or something? Little advice. Take whatever is asked (required) of you. Delete this post because if your seniors are reading this and they probably are, you’ll never be anything but a SP4. Soldier tf up and carry on

I do believe there is a regulation that will allow you to decline promotions. However, I believe in your case you may run the risk of reaching high Year tenure. If you are that Stressed about getting paid for what you do then perhaps the best solution is to do the research so you know what the Army and DOD guidance is.

With any branch of the service you get out of it what you put in to it. Suck it up and give it a 110% will take you a long way. One day you’ll be a civilian again and this mindset will be a great help in anything you choose to do.

You're actually insane enough to ask this question? The very fact you're ASKING this question is proof to everyone reading this post that YOU DON'T HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO LEAD TROOPS!!! I have to back up WO1 Jeff C. on this one. THE AUDACITY AND ARROGANCE ON YOUR PART TO EVEN WRITE THIS IS OFFENSIVE!!!!!
