I have a P3 profile for nocturnal seizures after being sleep deprived. AR 40-501 states it can be reduced to a P2 stating no assignment to an area w/o medical treatment available after 1 year w/o seizures. I’m 2 years free & still trying to have it reduced.
I’m currently in TRADOC and wondering if I can deploy if I get it reduced to a P2. I have civilian doctors here who are no help.

P3 for Seizures? No MEB?
Your lucky your still in.
Nocturnal seizures are not likely due to lack of sleep. Its a real form of epilepsy. and it is disqualifying for service.
So....IDK. Maybe you shouldn't worry about deploying.
Deployments always have the opportunity for sleep deprivation. these seizures could manifest while conscious and operating weapons, equipment or vehicles.
Maybe, for everyones benefit. you should retire.
I know that's harsh but its not only about you. its about the mission and troops around you.
I don't want to be a Debbie Downer but from you info that's what I got.

No worries. The regulation states that I can stay in and that after one year of being seizure free I get a P2 profile with assignments where medical treatment is available and after 3 years my profile has all limitation removed.
Next April I will be seizure free for 3 years to meet that requirement. I have medication that I take once a day to help with this. I haven’t pulled any all nighters since diagnosed but have gone with as little as 3-4 hours of sleep with no issues now. The Neurologist I had been seeing at my last duty station said my case isn’t very bed and the sleep deprivation had caused the few episodes that I did have. He said it would be extremely unlikely that I would have one during the day.
I have been on several deployments thus far in my career and would hate to not be able to deploy but I would understand if a Commander did not want me to. However I have been moved to a support MOS since I was diagnosed so I’m hoping that may help me.

“Once the Soldier has been seizure free for 1 year, the profile may be reduced to a P–2 profile with restrictions specifying no assignment to an area where medical treatment is not available.”
“ If the Soldier has remained seizure free for 36 months, they may be removed from profile restrictions.”
As stated, I have been seizure free for 2 years now but still having trouble having my P3 reduced to a P2, which I qualify for. I PCS’d from my last unit on short notice to reclass and now my doctor is civilian. He is telling me he is not supposed to change a student’s profile but if I get a follow-up to confirm I’m ok then he may be able to.
I do not want to get to my first unit after my reclass and us come down on orders for a deployment, only to find out I’m non-deployable and become a burden on the unit.
So would I be able to deploy on a P2 profile?
In April 2019, I qualify for my profile to be removed of restrictions. I’m assuming I’d at least be deployable then, correct?

To answer your initial question: Yes, you can deploy with a P2 profile. I have a P2 profile and I am hitting the ramp soon. In your particular case, if you reach your new unit and you are still under the 36 months when they receive orders to MOB, you may very well require a waiver to go. But, also, even if you get reduced to a P2, you may still require a waiver based on your condition.
So, you really have two options. 1) Get the follow up and see if the civilian doctor can change it to a P2, or 2) Wait until you get to your follow on assignment after reclass and talk with the medical officer there to get an updated P2.
