Can I get back in on active duty in the Marine Corps after getting out in 2013 and my IRR time ending in 2017?

Got out in 2013. Irr time ended Jan 2017. I want to get back in on active duty. Can it be done? Anyone know someone that has done it recently?

I put a few retreads in, no offense intended. If you are still qualified see a Recruiter. You'll make his day, and help make mission. Sort of, as prior service count with Manpower but not so much for those in between. It's more of a courtesy that you have earned. Don't waste their time if you're not still qualified, and ready to go.

Yeah I have some weight to lose. That’s why I haven’t bugged them much yet. How recent did you put them back in? Active duty? What were the obstacles that had to be overcome to accomplish it? Thank you sir!

Cpl Kyle Bradley - Only obstacle is you, get on the PT trail. I kept a kid motivated to lose weight so he could join, and he finally did. He missed weight by a lb at MEPS, so they ran him on the stairs of Federal Bldg to make weight. I recruited anything that moved 84-87. Things have changed, so consider that. We have 4 MAWs and they all need Crash Crew on occasion(s). Talk with NCOIC of RSS, as the canvassing recruiters are wrapped up in production. A PS package takes them away from it, but still benefits the overall Service. It's their job, unless they've been told not to. Good luck, don't waste time.

Just join the Army, we've got better promotions, MOS's, assignments, and duty stations. Plus, we love our prior service brothers and sisters. They always bring something different in experience than your average 18 year old fresh out of high school

Cpl Kyle Bradley, what makes you think you won’t in the Corps after such a long break in service? My suggestion is to talk with an Army recruiter and see where you stand based on your IRR status. Nothing to loose.

Cpl Kyle Bradley doing Basic the second time around amounts to a couple month long fitness camp. Once you realize it's all just a game there's nothing more to it than some PT

Could highly depend on age. By law, the maximum age for enlistment for the Marines is 35 with prior experience in military service.

I would suggest getting what ever ducks in a row you need to accomplish. Then find a recruiter that will cooperate and help you. Good Luck Marine!

Cpl Kyle Bradley - If you have your mind set on reenlisting you might try the Army. The Air Force doesn’t take prior service very often not sure on the Navy. Coast Guard wouldn’t work unless you are thrilled to go to basic again.

Cpl Kyle Bradley - Subtract the 4 YIS and you're almost 27. The limits were 17-29, but it may have changed. Unless you have to do a document hunt, or your qualifications have changed, a prior service USMC package takes less than an hour to gin up. They'll send it and you to MEPS for a go/no go, and you swear in. The RS folks and MC MEPS Liaison will work with you while on deck. This all assumes no hidden mental, moral, or physical disqualifications. Best to have ducks aligned the first time if you go.
