Can I get Barred to reenlistment and/or face separation by failing the promotion board more than once?

I was sent to the promotion board with having little knowledge, I received a No-Go. I went a second time 3 weeks later. I prepared myself better however, I received another No-Go. My leadership is telling me that I have to go again and if I fail I will be barred, and possible separated.

Company commanders initiate a bar to reenlistment.
The Need for justification is basic for a commander to justify a bar to reenlistment.
Ideally of course it’s based on a soldiers behavior or actions documented etc. but honestly it could also be because it’s Thursday and that’s what the commander wanted to do
So yes a commander could bother you to reenlistment based on substandard performance at the promotion board
The bar would likely not be justified by saying failed promotion board it would simply be substandard performance in assigned duties or something like that

I understand, and honestly I don’t think my current commander would go that path. I am in this unit for a year only. I volunteered to become a Door Gunner for an upcoming deployment. Once we return I will go back to my organic unit. They had known me for three months and I appreciate them for sending me to the board but I needed a little more couching.

SGT (Join to see) - Wait a minute! Were you PCS'd to your present unit or are you TDY? If you are only temporarily assigned to this unit and are still carried on the books for your "organic" unit, you need to let the chain of command in that "organic" unit know what's going on. I can guarantee you that they will have something to say about it.

A bar to reenlistment is not a bar to continued service. Usually you dont do back to back promotion boards, theres some development time in between

I had three weeks between the first and the second time. And I think it will be about the same time for the third one.

Keep trying and read the AAR and develop yourself take this time to study, and understand the questions asked. Use your leadership to have them help you prepare.
Don't let it get to the point they want to take action for separation. Take control of your career progression.

Thank you Sargent, I am now taking more time to study for the board. My college class is over so I have more time available.

Unless things have drastically changed since I got out, they cannot bar you for failing at the board. They can, however, discharge you if you're at the retention control point for your grade. If I remember correctly, the RCP for E-4 is 8 years, and 10 years for a promotable E-4.
How long have you been in?

Then the only way I believe they can bar you is if they consider you to be irretrievably non-competitive for promotion -- which is a cause for bar action. Other than that, it may be that your leadership is trying to light a fire under you and get you motivated to do better. My advice is to respond by redoubling your efforts to get a "go" on the board. Don't give up - get busy.
And, just for clarity, retention control points are based on time-in-service, not time-in-grade.

I've been in the army for only 3 years , as far as I know , anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong , but I think if your an e4 for x amount of years you can get chaptered out for belingering , I work with a sgt that did the board multiple times before getting to e5 , definitely more than 3 times. Maybe it depends on your unit ? I think being barred is a little extreme. A buddy of mine took it 3 times before getting his P status.

So check it out,
Any board I’ve been to, the board gives you an AAR and your sponser should too.
Take that shit to heart, take notes and work on that. Know your self and seek self improvement right?
So the CO can bar you from pretty much anything from my understanding. So depends on your CoC.
After being in for a while, if you’re not moving up you’re moving out but that’s normally years before guys but their RCP.
Ask your 1st line or sponser what you can work on, get prep boards, study,

Thank you for the input Sargent. My first line supervisor gave me an AAR both times, and even the second time my platoon Sargent got involved, they will help me by doing mock boards so I can get feedback right away. Also, I am in this unit just for an upcoming deployment. I volunteer to become a Door Gunner so that is my job here. After deployment I will come back to my organic unit, and I’m also working on my package to apply for Green to Gold. They know I want to stay in and do more, and I think that is why they are pushing me which is a great opportunity, my organic unit is bigger and things are handled different.

If they want to- cause you are showing then you are not leadership material.

The reason why I did not push for a promotion is because I want to apply for green to gold this year, I’m in a new unit and deploying in about a month
