Never had the desire. Maybe it was having barracks roommates just after I joined who would leave their spit cups all over the room. I'd get stuck hiding or disposing of them in order to ensure we passed room inspections.
In the submarine community dip was supposed to be used in designated smoking areas but the rules were never followed. As a courtesy any bottle used for spit was supposed to be wrapped in duct tape to distinguish it from other beverages. Watched a guy take a swig of what he thought was his gatorade because someone forgot the tape.
Fast forward to the end of my career and my last LCPO (Leading Chief Petty Officer). Eating candy was also not authorized on watch but some of us did so and threw the wrappers in the work space trash can. He would get worked up over it but apparently thought it was A OK to place his dip on top of a pile of trash for someone to stick their hands in when emptying it.
No offense to any dippers, but I'd rather clean up after smokers.

No dipping, smoking, coffee or drinking while I was in. Now I like my whisky, mostly bourbon or single malt.
Love the smell of fresh brewed coffee, can't stand the taste.
And for a guy who loves parasitology, (look up what specimen that entails), tobacco disgusts me. I'm also allergic to nicotine.

1. My first deployment I ran out of smokes out in sector and asked buddy for dip. But maybe once before then out in field same situation.
2. 1st can when I tried quit smoking during first deployment.

Did you have an entire career without dipping, even once? @MSgt Joshua Copeland

I actually think smoking is nastier than dipping, both gross when kissing is involved.

Was smoke and cope free for about my first year of service. Took up smoking as it appealed more to my background than dipping (West Coast). As with most young Infantrymen I had my first dip in the field at night (no-smoking). And like most beginners I experienced the dizzies, queezies and what not. I pretty much gave up on it then until OIF III. I decided to quit smoking in a combat zone (not a good idea) due to the numerous night time ops and snipers in the area. Ended up transitioning to Cope. Don't get me wrong, both are bad habits, however I continue to dip even after retirement. I just prefer to have a bad habit the directly effects me. Also I try to respect others by not spitting in their presence.

Tried it on my second boat, because the smokers would all get smoke breaks during the duty day while I was stuck below decks having to work; but if I were dipping, I could go topside too. I started with the foo-foo cherry-flavored Skoal. I think I lasted about 2 weeks, dipping very minimally.
My affair with dip ended one day when my LPO gave me a pinch of Copenhagen on an empty stomach while we were working topside on a hot day...

Noooooo. I got talked in to it at a football camp my junior year but before I could one of the senior players more or less told me no. For whatever reason that deterred me from doing it for the rest of my life. It has crossed my mind but as i quit smoking, I figure picking up another bad habit probably isn't the way to go.
